So heres the question, whats the smallest unit you would drive on European work?
Sib
Hi bigsib, If it’s about small cabs/engines, I did regular Italys in a Volvo F88 with 240 hp, but at least it had a turbo.
We were running at 32 proper tons then, but we kept the same trucks when we moved up to the (then) new weight limit of 38t.
For those with a fear of speed, we could offer a 1626 (260 hp) non-turbo Merc SK that didn’t even have any cab insulation.
I do agree with Simon’s comments above though, cos in these troubled times, a job is a job mate.
If you think things are bad, spare a thought for me in my first job on tankers…
Then I became a driving instructor, and just look at our nice new motor, it’s even got a seat.

I would happily do 2 weeks in a high roof premium. am I right in saying an FM is smaller inside with a higher engine hump?
The boss has just purchesed 3 second hand FM’s and I would love one over the FE’s, yeah the cab dimensions are about the same but theres far more flat space and not as big engine hump in the FM, More storage space too, i can actually get into the bunk without getting cramp in an FM!
Oh well im after a new job anyhow now, contract expires soon, and after the theft of my load the other week, he says he aint gonna renew it. That and theres a que of 21 year olds with sparkly new licences at his door, who he can employ for less (dutch CAO rules) and force to run bent. Want to stay benelux anyhow to be closer to my new family, as i got engaged 6 weeks ago.
Should there not be a firescreen under that horses tail to stop backfires, and the trap wheels need steel mudguards I think.
I always used to admire that lad with the Sitra (Saelens) furniture lorry. He is a nice lad but there is more fat on chip, there has to be for him to get in the cab
Oh and now looking for work, hes stood me down now till the end of my contact, and as I’m on a no work no pay contract no wage either! Written confirmation of end of contact due in the next few days too.
Mind you better off out, the [zb] refused to pay waiting time on tips, so when he got the date wrong on a tip id have to wait days with no pay, had enough of that I’m telling you!
Cant say much more as its now in the hands of a brief.

What are the wages?
That comes way ahead of the cab size as far as I’m concerned.
Was around £11.50 ph as long as the wheels were turning, you get the same here no matter what cab u drive, so id rather be able to stand up slightly for that amount of cash.
