Ben9:
Is their anywhere where you can get a list of Routiers along with opening times on the net as I only know the ones I have seen (if you know what I mean), and it looks like we are starting to do more French work so will come in handy.
Chez Jo is that the one on the N1 just above Abbeville■■?
Yes, Chez Jo is in the village of Hautvillers-Ouville, about 6kms north of the A28/A16 peage and junction on the old N1. Well worth the detour.
There is a directory called, I think, Les Routiers but it is very expensive and, when I looked at one several years ago and checked for well known routiers that I knew, they weren’t all in it.
I saw a copy in the Drome, mentioned above west of Figeac, and asked the patron the price. €19 I think it was but it was just a display copy, he had long ago sold out. Perhaps not so bad after all.

Have you seen inside and compared it with good routiers you know?
Despite the cost I would have bought it if it was good as, although I have a map marked by me with every routier I have ever come across, I know there are places I haven’t been and it would be useful for planning journeys.
I have an old copy of that book, although it only cost me 13€ in 2005. They are good if you end up stuck somewhere you are not familiar with, although as Spardo said, not all the best ones are in them, but they come in for finding a resto routier that is open all weekend or when planning a new route.
I did download a resto map for my satnav but it tells you where every one is and it gets rather confusing as not all restos are suitable for lorries.
When we called in Vivonne twice last week, I was telling the girl that my first visit was before she was born, but the shower cleaner looked as though she had been dug up

I have perused the new book but as i have one just a couple of years old there´s not that many different especially as i only use 2 or 3 routes in france so never really go anywhere else

they even do one in big print for old gits like you
I remember getting a Les Routier Book in the mid 80’s and at the back of the book it said wherever you see the Les Routier sign you could expect to get a 3 course and half a bottle of wine for £3 or £4( I can’t remember how much exactly). I’d often thought about going into the posh restaurants in Alderley Edge Cheshire with the truck parked outside ask for my £3 meal ,I’d probably get slung out
I have mentioned this before why the English think it is a superior eating establishment for connoiseurs of fine dining, and are blissfully ignorant of its real puropose, which is good value meals for Rouitiers, not for Jezzer Clarkson and his mates in Chipping Norton to park their Aston Martins DB 7`s on the shiny polished gravelled drive on the “English Routier”,with the ivy growing on the walls.
Imagine 20 hungry French drivers parking up at one these snotty places in the uk,and ordering the wine on tap,in 5 litre jugs.
Harry,i would be the fiirst one to park an artic at the English one, that thinks they are smug with the Rouiter sign on their establishment.
It was Little Chef that only wants car drivers and makes no room for trucks, signs all over that say no HGV `S,well stuff them then,i take my money elsewhere,i boycot the Little Chef if i am out in my car in free time.
