Best driver criteria

the maoster:
I think that your boss is mixing up “best driver” with “most compliant driver”. Two totally different things.

Decent point mate. ’ Best driver ’ could be (from an employers perspective) on time/reliable, good Microlise/Fleetbord scores, minimal damage etc.

From a drivers perspective; Trustworthy colleague, knowledgeable, most respected etc… I personally would question WHY anyone would be bothered about being the ’ best ’ driver, as you then only have one way to go  There are also the usual heroes who manage to do that one hit trunk on 9 hrs 45 mins drive by doing all the usual tricks (up to the roundabout past all the traffic in lane 1 and go all the way round, 52 mph through the 50 section etc  ) and then set an impossibly ’ high standard ’ which makes everyone else look crap :unamused:

And of course the good old ’ arse licker ’ :imp: . To me, the ’ best ’ driver is the one who does the least amount of work for the most money, sells the most pallets without getting caught, and makes me laugh with crappy jokes :grimacing:

So basically ’ best ’ driver means different things to different folk.

Where I work there are only 3 drivers so I’m definitely in the top 3.

Works out quite well for me whenever I want to go home early I just say I’m not skilled enough to get an artic there and worlds best driver jumps at the chance to prove he is superior.

I used to go to a company in Salford that was tight (and a ballache) so use to park putside for loading until said company insisted on truck being in the yard. I said it wouldn’t fit in, the BEST driver said it would. he got the job every time it came up . Good Karma

Not sure it’s anything to do with best driver cobblers, but there is much to be said for being one of a few that get sent to certain awkward jobs without getting their ■■■■■■■ in a twist.
In that the tear arses don’t get sent there so the job isn’t carved up.

I am best driver of the whole industry…but it doesnt win me any trophies…

the best driver ever works at our place . theres two wagons and two drivers plus a yard hand who has a licence (?) who covers if one of us is off. you can guarantee that if your off, the wagon will have some damage (unreported ) when you get back .he can do his daily checks in the time it takes to put his card in ,without even getting out of the cab, he can run all over the countryside with insufficient straps and if a pack of blocks falls over its because it wasnt shrinkwrapped or banded properly. weak bridges and weight limits mean nothing to him but he can do the runs a lot quicker than us .he surpassed even himself last week , ive been off for 4 weeks (sick due to a back injury) when my mate turned in this this morning he noticed my wagon was missing yet the driver (?) was in the yard. so he went in the office and asked what was happening . turns out the FTA man had inspected it on Friday and condemned it . its now in DAF . the office refused to tell what the faults were . :frowning: :frowning: .the annoying thing is that the management don’t seem bothered about his behaviour.

Guy sounds fine to me. (Being serious)

I’m definitely my companies best driver.

I also own the truck.

The boss reckons thst I scrape into the top ten at our place.

Not a huge company to be fair though. With nine drivers in total…
