Love this KM, very smart
I worked for Fredk.Ray Ltd,in Leighton Buzzard in the late70s and we had a few TMs mostly Detroit V6 and a couple of V8
s.You had to rev the nuts off of them to get anywhere but the throaty sound of the V6 was great, especially to me as a young driver. Not a great ride but I loved `em!!
Hey, Two Belgian of the so loved and cheap light and midweight lorry which lost the battle with Daf.
A so well sold world truck disapeared why, sold and sold but never updated.
In my view not bad to drive but surely missed a tilt cab, and the TL was too late and never sold well here.
Eric,
The KM was the model that nearly bust Bedford trucks because of unreliability issues like, camshats shearing, oil leaks, rear hubs falling off, gearbox and diff problems, worst truck ever made.

0 A KM with a Detroit aimed at the 32 ton market.
I clearly re-call one day in the mid/later '70’s the local Bedford salesman came flying into our depot in a KM unit identical to that one(may even have been that one!) just after Bedfords had launched that engine spec, what a noisy ■■■■■■■ it was,and so was the salesman actually !! I said to him as he lent out of the window grinning like a ■■■■ while gunning the engine,“Don’t bother even attempting to get out of the cab, just turn around and ■■■■ off out of the yard with that pile of ■■■■■■ so thats exactly what he did,“revved up and ■■■■■■ off”

Nice one Pete ! but I think we should camaflage this thread because if the Leatherhead motormouth “clocks” it we’ve no chance,we’ll be deluged in the smelly brown stuff for the next couple of weeks
I’ll give Matron a “bell” and ask she could increase the dose of horse tranquelizer this evening !! Cheers Dennis.

Now then John, you may or may not know it but years ago I was offered two jobs as British Consul, one down in Barrow and including Millom and the other in Gaza City,I couldn’t make my mind up which was the best posting but I suppose on balance Gaza City would have been a bit quieter plus it is always sunny !! Cheers Dennis.

Are you sure you weren’t in Jeddah, Dennis?
I was in Dammam and heard my brother was in hospital with heat stroke in Jeddah, so I found a load and did the 1,000 miles in one hit (where did I leave that hat and spurs?) as I had no idea where he was, I went to the embassy. It was about cocktail hour - I never got past the button press at the gate. A languid voice advised me to tour the hospitals and then put the phone down.
Now I come to think, I’m sure the name was Smith…
Sorry, getting off thread again, perhaps we’d best leave it there.
Here’s a bit of old 60’s and 70’s footage, 6-cylinder petrol 7-ton Bedfords pulling a dog.
All up 28ton, vacuum brakes with no brakes permitted on the dog’s steering axle in those days, scary.
They went through a gearbox every fortnight, bottom gear just wore out on the big hills but they wound them up down the other side so hang on.
By 72 they moved to locally assembled 8-wheeler AEC’s with the turbo Leyland 680 engine and semi auto box, pulling that same dog but now carrying 2-bins on the 8-wheeler.
