Banksmen

im sorry stuart you are responsible for the vehicle. never mind banksmen get out and have a good look about firstand clock where all the hazards are then go back as you feel safe.

you have learnt the hard way cos if challanged the banksmen would say " well i did warn him " and the site will take his word everytime.

Actually the site involved “sent home” the banksman soon after the incident, so they know whose fault it was. The problem is that our insurance company don’t recognise banksmen, so yes it is down to me. Lesson learned the hard way

well you should be ok then, i mean if the site has told your company that it was the banksmen fault then evans cant hold you to blame.

had something similar the other day but he wasnt a banksman as such went to deliver not to bad goin in was on a slight bend yard large enough :unamused: but the way they had stacked pallets & vans parked also a slight camber so had to reverse out onto main road on a bend ( Elswick road for those that know it )

so flt driver asked another member of staff ( in there own language) to watch me back there was also a stone wall there ( but not straight ) i slao used my mirrors as well as watchin him he was ok tbh the other problem was that our asian cousins are a little impatient and decided to drive down the side of me or try to follow me out so i just stopped place in neutral & let them go

I’ve given up with them, I just have a quick word always the same; “I should be o.k. mate, just shout if I’m gonna hit anything”. Then I just do my own thing and keep an eye on them for a shout or raised hand, If I feel I need to get out for a look I do - like you say, they’ll accept no responsibility.

Had a guy at a shop I was delivering to, told him exactly as I said above and started reversing. He did the typical stand slap bang behind you so you cant see him anyway but worked it out for himself pretty quick. All of a sudden he disappeared again, no shout or anything, I’d just put my foot on the brake as I spotted him just behind the very corner - I could just see his hand and the side of him when I felt a bump :open_mouth: As I craned my neck as far as possible to see what the bump was, all was revealed; I’d been about to hit a bollard but instead of shouting or anything, he’d tried to stop the truck by pushing against it  needless to say, I hit the post and needed a new lense on the back light. Muppet :unamused:

Im surprised when I was at ND doing the DAF and Ford drops that I never hit anything there given that it was usually dark o clock in the morning when I was there
The fitters at DAF at Colnbrook sometimes watched me back when they had nothing do and they were useless, why is it that when people come out to watch/help thats when you forget how to reverse
Has anybody ever been to DAF at Colnbrook in an artic?

We do alot of site work and I always ask if a banksman is available if the reversing is a bit of an iffy one, then propmptly take absoloutly NO notice of any signs he makes , because, as has been said on here it is ALWAYS the drivers fault, and to be honest most times that fault is justified…

Ask for the banksman and your ■■■ is half covered, well it will go down well with the gaffer…

Hiya …i had a top notch banksman on a job in shell. i finished and he stayed another two weeks but got caught
having a tipple at lunch (vodka and orange)sacked. anyhow when the next big job come off they give me a banksman.
well you,ve seen nothing like it i had him trapped between my wheels and a compressor the first day. i stormed
into the office and said i need the P… head on this job hes the best to work with.unfortunatley he was very busy
in liverpool. but was told i could have him next time. he would back you through scaffolding round crane outriggers
good side blindside, and some times with as much as 8ft overhang each side no problem.

Fuse. In my experience the driver always gets the blame, from being three hours late at a delivery even though you were told there is no rush, to running over a nail on the motorway.

I do believe there should be some sort of difference between a company employed Banksman to some random bloke you ask to “just watch me back mate” If you have a choice, it will be better to ask another driver to watch you in somewhere tight as they understand the physics of an artic.

If any of you have delivered to OCG Cacao on the Belgiëlei in Antwerp, them new VDB lads may get a shock at the access

There are two blokes there who reverse a tanker into the yard with mm’s to spare and on the blind side too. You fold your mirrors in or simply ignore what you are seeing, and maintain eye contact with the man who walks along with you, his mate is there to stop suicidal Jewish mothers sneaking round the back of the trailer :stuck_out_tongue:

Never met a good banksmen yet they’re just uneducated ■■■■■ who are just put on site because The HSE think its what we need to help us back or drive in. [zb] goons the lot of em.

Banksmen…Gggggrrrrr

A bit of a rant.

As some of you know, we do quite a bit of site work in our job, where you sometimes have to rely on banksmen.
Now i’m finding my job is at risk because twice in the last 2 months, these so called “trained” people have failed to do their job and warn me of potential disaster.

the result 2 bumps that should have been prevented if these banksmen had been watching and warned me of these unseen hazzards.

Just to make matters worse, the companys insurance company don’t recognise banksmen, hence both of these bumps are “driver blameworthy” hence my job being at risk.

I will find out more when my 10 days holidays are up (Yes they are holidays, not suspension)
Time to find something else me thinks…strangely enough I’m missing RDC work :open_mouth:

our work is 90% site deliveries, we get paid a basic plus bonus based on what the wagons earnt but damage the motor and your bonus is out the window, hence i do my own thing and as previously memntioned say to the banksman, “only shout me if somethings coming”, very very few “banksman” have ever sat in a wagon let alone driven one!
