Automatic gearbox slow from standing start

Gillberry:
With our xf’s and cf’s slowing using retarder and brake means you can get the gears down to the lower gears ready for pulling away .

This only works if you have the engine brake on a very aggressive setting, which will have you lurching like a kangaroo in the lower gears and is a solution worse than the problem.

Wrong mate. I drive an XF and with a bit of forward planning it’s a piece of ■■■■.

Same on my 2 pedal scania, work the engine brake and knock down to your advantage, keep the revs up and boom your off.

Pfft…we are surrounded by amateurs Drifty.

True, you just gotta know how to rag the backside out of it

Quote from Beezle 'Or the other manufacturers could pull their finger out, and catch up with Volvo!

Best auto box on the market. Smoother than Silky the silkworm in his silk pyjamas. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve over ridden it.

I can’t remember ever overriding an auto box under normal circumstances - not lately anyway.

I wonder how guys’ attitudes to gearboxes compares to the EU referendum - are Brexiteers the same ones that want to take back control and select manual? While the Bremainers want to sit back, learn to work with the gearbox, and enjoy an easy smooth ride?

I find that override the box when I’m accelerating to try and jump someone just coming off a roundabout.

I override it when it holds in 11th gear more than it needs and when it thinks 4th is low enough for 3mph loaded and judders it’s nuts off, other than that it’s good

A decent driver will override the box if required in order to stay in the torque (green) band.

This worked on the CF demo (auto) I tried last year. Completely negated the two second throttle delay.

That’s because you are a man/driver of great quality Muckster

Disguised as a tipper driver.

Some good on topic advice given in relation to the way we should be driving and letting the gearbox know before the event you want a low gear to pull away. Thanks all.
