Now that the election is over, normal service is resumed in Australia:
Probably my favourite Foden cab, had one at K&M pulling a powder tanker. 205 Cummins and Foden 12 speed box. After coming to a halt in snow climbing Swinscoe empty, I managed to restart by carefully testing several gears one by one 'till I found the one that gently gripped.
Couldnât manage it once loaded out of the quarry though after much more snow had fallen on top of ice, so it was an evening with several others in front of a blazing fire in the local pub and then back to sleep in our bags on the heated floor of the quarry rest room.
Salt down in the morning and off to Bonnie Scotland, where there was no snow.
A Western Star for @star_down_under
Come on whatâs going on there then .???
Western Star, ERF, DAF, MAN, etc etc?
Looks as if someone has grafted a Cabtech DAF/Strato cab onto an ERF-based Western Star Commander 7564 - I may be wrong!
Werenât they called a Commander? A rebadged ERF if I remember correctly.
Whoops, I should have read further before blindly charging in.
Western Star were nothing to do with Paccar owned Daf.They bought ERF then were taken over by MAN now they are under the good old Mercedes umbrella
Yes I know, but that doesnât stop some diesel-head from grafting a DAF cab onto an ERF EC Western Star Commander does it?
Thatâs what i was thinking and we know how innovative those Aussies are.I wonder if they could transplant some sense into CF or is that a step too far?
Was that the inspiration for Douglas Adams spaceship engine?
The Infinite Improbability Drive.
Forked if I know, I was just giving SDU a poke
Maybe âA Bridge Too Farâ
Could be, I dunno. I was ribbing you a bit
And we all know how good those Daimler (current name) products areâŚ
And KW.
Even we have limitations.
Silk purse something something sowâs ear something.
Western Star Commander was trading off the reputation of the White Road Commander. I dont know what running gear the ERF ran, but as far as l remember, they were an Australianised ERF, eg, spider wheels, two large fuel tanks, and Cummins/Detroit RoadRanger Rockwell/Eaton.
