Australia then and now

Thanks for those pictures, Buzzer.
Wallaroo is in southern South Australia, a little north of Adelaide. South Australia has always been a big producer of grain, Wallaroo is where it was loaded onto ships.

Fine SDU if you are wondering how they got those sacks up to the top to the “lumpers” as they were called to stack it was by the pully system that can be seen in the picture pulled by a horse, Buzzer

These were test vehicles for the ill fated V8 AEC. They’ve come from an old AEC Gazette and the person who posted them was a test driver. He said the cab was designed for Australia with flat panels to make it easier to repair in isolated areas. They were fitted with air con. One of the vehicles had a twin turbo V8 but when they scrapped the V8 programme they cut them down to 4x2 units and fitted TL12 (AV770s) in them .They were run night and day from Southall to the Severn Bridge then turned around up the M5 to junction 3 then back to Southall. He states the engines were taken out after 50000 miles stripped down checked put back together and off again. They were running at 44 tons back in the very early 70s

Easier to see the right way up . Too much beer last night

From Steve’s Place Down Under:

Loading up for the show

And at the show (didn’t this used to be the Penrith Truck Show?):

I know jack about truck shows down south. I used to do all the SEQ historic shows, but haven’t got to any this year. It makes me feel old when I’ve driven half of the types on display and would happily jump in twenty-five percent and load for anywhere. :flushed:

I’m not as long in the tooth as you, but I look at that Mitsi “eff-k” in the line-up and remember the days long ago when I used to drive them (weird windows and mirrors, 3000prm red band) around S*itney.

Long story short, once with much reluctance took a brand new Mitsi, pm to Sydney from Brisvegas. I screwed the boss down to pay me a decent trip rate on top of my hourly rate and motel bill. I refused to find a load back home, that was his job. I had the last laugh, he never got paid for the Sydney load and I could have found a better paying load home.
