At least this has reaffirmed my healthy work ethic

Love the way some start shouting ‘troll’ just because some have an entirely different view, opposite opinion or a negative opinion compared to the o/p… :unamused:
So here’s my trolling.

I discovered years ago there is far more to life than spending most of it in a ■■■■ truck and taking up Cab Happiness is the first symptom of ■■■■ madness… :unamused:

If work was anything other than a means to live, (or a ■■■■ hobby or something,) the upper classes would be doing it. :bulb:

I’m enjoying my time off, it’s the longest period of time I’ve spent at home since I was a kid.
When I have to start back, I’ll be there, but I ain’t chomping at the bit to jump into a ■■■■ cab by any means.

I was talking to a guy who is in charge of HR at a firm, these were some of his views on drivers taking furlough…
‘Some are taking the ■■■■, they are finding they can live on 80% of their wages so aren’t in a hurry to start back’’

Ok…but I thought that was the idea of furlough, to manage on the 80% allowance until your job is viable, where does it say you have to be dissatisfied with it?

The best one he came out with though was this one…

‘‘Some guys ain’t wanting to come back yet, and are prepared just to sit at home in case they go out and infect their kids’’ :open_mouth:

Taking the ■■■■?? …Seriously??
I thought that was the Govt’s instructions…'Stay at home unless you can work from there, so as not to infect others, I would say ESPECIALLY family, to save the NHS workload.

If this is a bit of a taster of retirement,… but with all the benefits of going out, socialising, holidaying and all the rest of it, and more importantly being financially able to maintain that decent life style, bring it on I say, and ■■■■ anything to do with trucks and trucking.
You are a long time dead. :bulb:

I’m in the same school of thought as you Rob
Why would I want to go back to work and sit around doing nothing and may be bringing back Covid to my 73 year old Mum when I come home every week end or be stuck at work as I couldn’t risk coming home
Also if I’m only doing basic hours I’m no better off in fact worse as I would have to buy food and fuel for car for work (only used 1/2 tank all month )
There will be one very sad Hound when I go back to work as she wont get her 9am walkies every day

the condensed version as follows.
as in other european countries,

work to live, dont live to work.
lots of places start early and are finished early ,then they can live the home/leisure life from mid afternoon till its dark.

So here’s my trolling.

I mentioned the word ‘troll’ in agreement to a previous poster.

I can’t remember in full but I think the first response to my original post was, in my opinion, overly derisive.

All I said was that the furlough period had shifted my previously held desire to retire early at 64 and, instead, maybe leave it a bit - potentially until 66.

I don’t expect my state pension to come in until I’m 67 at least.

Maybe not trolling - more like an eagerness to pounce.

To each their own.

Tbf mate I was referring to the previous poster also…
I hardly ‘‘pounced’’ as you put it, I was just giving my opinion on your points, which differs a bit to yours…because you did ask after all if ‘‘any of us were of the same mindset’’. :bulb:

I’ve just been in to see when I’m starting back, I was prepared and willing to go back in at beginning of month (even though I’ve ■■■■ ed up my already dodgy arm) but was told I would be off until at least the 11th…not a problem to me whatsoever as I pointed out in my other post.

I retired when I was 67on the date that the DCPC came in.
Before that I spent several years agency driving on a “when I felt like it” basis. That included refusing work for some hauliers or refusing to load out of certain places because i refused to be treated with contempt or disrespect.
I never missed work.Like an earlier poster wrote I went from local to distance to tramping to european to middle east and back to day trips only in my working life.
