robroy:
The first thing I listed, ie proper facilities is Council/Govt determined, as far as I know local councils have an obligation even to provide parking sites for gypsies, so it would appear that us drivers are considered below them on the food chain.
The Govt are definitely able to determine driver’s hours rules also, (especially when we finally get tf out of the EU) so the pay structure could be adjusted to where you do not have to work time equal to a week and a half’s hours to earn a week’s wages…as many do now.
As for changing jobs, personally in my area firms are much of a muchness and I work for the best of a bad bunch, so unless I go outbased from another area or country as I used to, there is no point.
And for the record I do my fair share of making my opinions clear there, but a single voice only makes things better for myself at least.
Yep I agree with you on the facilities
I don’t think the government themselves could do anything about the regs as it stands.
I was a fairly lonely voice when the wtd was brought in that I thought it was a great idea, until it then wasn’t a true 48 hour average, the vast majority were massively against it. That was by far the best card we had.
However, it would’ve suited me down to the ground, but not others. Same as you now, what about others who it suits better as it is now? Why should what you want override what others want and do?
GB domestic regs, I work under them at certain times of the year, you definitely won’t like them!!
I live in an area with very little industry, with very few trucking jobs and firms to choose from, non of which offer great pay. But it’s surprising even round here, when you look beyond the haulage firms just how many local trucks are running around, 1 or 2 trucks type jobs, a farm running a truck, an agricultural dealer / dealership, scrap yard, water board etc, some interesting jobs with better t&c than the norm
There’s also nothing round here that’ll pay the same as 60 hours in a truck for doing 40 hours unless you’ve got a chunk of qualifications behind you or worked your way up, so I think it’s a myth to say you work a week and a half to earn a weeks money, there’s trucking jobs round here that you’ll do less than 40 hours per week, which like most other jobs doing said hours you ain’t gonna earn much, so you have a choice to get a job working more go earn more. If wages for drivers doubled overnight, there’s still be plenty doing 60+ hours, you may say it’s greed, but it’s just human nature really isn’t it? Unless you’re one of the very few super rich, there’s always a bigger house, newer better car, better and more often holiday etc, we all set the balance however we see fit, there’s no right or wrong, just individual choice
