Ferry in later years.
That’s the one Dave.
Sorry Mr Mushroom it should of said while waiting to cross the bridge, but on hind site I may not have been that bridge at all, When I was in that area I was usually traveling East West, not North South, so it may have been another border crossing and a different river.
I used to collect empty honey drums all over the UK in the 80’s Ricket and Coleman in Norwich were a big user and there was a company in Cardiff as well that we used to collect loads from, also Robinsons in Manchester.

What a great sight and how it brings back memories to see European Drivers doing internals in Saudi…
I am pleased I was privileged to have done it…It is doubtful that those times will ever be repeated, as now it is all Asians working for anything between 200 & 300 GBP per month and leave entitlement is only after the completion of a two year contract.
One point worth noting, is that few of them can drive and many return home in a box![]()

Hi Suedehead,
I think that you will find out that the Logo ( First for Service ) was what the late Andrew Wilson Young had on his trailer, and on his last merc which he called Big Bertha.
I presume that Garry Glass bought it after his death.
regards Jamie.

I stand corrected.
Regards Andy.
Most of us loved AWY but I bet Garry had to steam clean the inside of the truck prior to driving it
…RIP Andrew.
Just found this pic so here you go!

This looks very much like Bob Hedley AKA the Animal.
Brave man pulling a step frame through Turkey, I did a few to Adana with a step frame cube and always thought brakes were to small for the job, constantly over heating. Did he have a retarder on the Strato.
Swinging Fashion the red Dutch Dafs had a load of cube boxes with the same running gear that used to run out of Georgia but I don’t think they were running top weight.

Hello,
a picture of my truck in le Cerdon in 1978 when I was young and imagined going Mid East.
I drove this Berliet too

This is me at Dogubayesit truck stop on my way to Teheran Trade Fair in 1983.This was a Promotor trailer and load.
I was fully freighted so took four trailer spare tyres with me,but was lucky to only have a puncture in Bulgy on the way out.
8-25-15 tube and flap. My drag had them on it from new, it was alright behind the Sed Atki and F 7 but it didn’t like it behind the F 12. I had it to Tunisia a few times and only blew one. The track on it was slightly narrower than trailers with 11 22.5 so it used to jump in and out of the tram lines on the road. The Autostrada down by Modena was bad, as was parts of the A 1 at that time. They didn’t last long if you got them over 70 mph either loaded or empty. Claud Ray Mermet for Friderici blew 22 on one trip to Pakistan, but he was 65ton on6 axles.
The later cube trailers I pulled had 19 inch tubeless and weren’t as bad but the brakes used to over heat very quickly. The guy I was pulling for at the time got hold of some dodgy brake linings and they used to smoke just going round the M25, and the girl driver we had never came back for a trip with out having at least 2 over the cam.
Jeff…
I had a York tri-axle stepframe on 15" wheels - bought 2nd hand.
As long as you had Michelin tyres, kept 140lb psi and made sure the valve stems were in the groove on the wheel rim not too much trouble
Often loaded over 30tons, they didn’t last long but that was offset by much higher revenue.
Biggest gripe I had, was limited room for trailer boxes so a roof rack was necessary.
