Thank you Mr Mackie. I see you did a trip recently? I guess it was a seller. Are you back in the game or just a one off. As its Astran/ middle east drivers what differances did you find from now to the old days trucking to the middle east ?
Dave.

Hi Dave
Seeing your photos of boarder queues, dual carriage ways and motorways.
I definitely would not go it looks boring, tedious and mind-numbing.
I will stick with central London, more fun

thanks dave for getting the thred back on track

Just one small point a few have failed to notice, The Long Haul Pioneer’s was about Astrans and its Drivers and Subbies, the claim was about this company not about driving to the ME,I know also that many good drivers did the ME for other companies and deserve a mention in any good book on the subject,so as Im not a writer someone do it go collect all the info on any Driver who went, it might take some time a lot longer than Ash ,We all know Ash has never been to the ME this is what makes writing of the book so remarkable ,and jolly good for him ,I will if agreed by all to call a halt to all this bickering ,and pull the thread back to what it deserves a chapter in Trucking history in the past and the present,I admit to part of the blame ,lets remember the good times, chat about the bad times the hard times the journeys, and mostly friends who are no longer with us ,and good luck to all who still drive the route, And just for the record I will be making one last trip this year. I will be at Gaydon next Month on the Sunday hope I will see many of you there.

Hi Roger, I.I.R.C. on my old Phillips map of The Middle East, Turkey was very clearly defined and on my first trip to Diyarbakir I remember meeting a young guy called Mick who drove for Euroroute from Northampton. I am sure that he told me that he had been involved with racing Formula 2 or Formula 3 cars but had realised that he was not going to make the grade in motor sport so he turned his hand to do long distance trucking, does anybody remember him ?.
I believe that the author of The Long Haul Pioneers may of done more than a couple of trips to Turkey for Euroroute in the 80’s in this or am I getting mixed up with that well known lorry driver Albert Coggleswaite .
B.T.W. Roger will you be doing anymore book signing at Gaydon this year
Regards Steve.

Dave.
A fine picture of this is in the June edition of Heritage Commercials.
I was wondering if Dave Mackie would be kind enough to write briefly where the pictures he posted were taken for the chaps like me who have never made it out of Europe…

Dave Mackie has a brilliant website with pictures from all over Europe and beyond, with some descriptions.
