HI boys
Roger, your last post has triggered something in my head. At the moment we export diggers to Sweden to a chap called Lars Johansson and his dad is called Stig. Is that the same chap or just a coincident??
V8Lenny what year was those photos taken?? early 70’s??
Do you know the drivers names ,if so is the guy putting on the snow chains Lars( Stiggy) Johansson.
Roger
The guy putting on the chains is my father, Esko “Manolito” Keskevaari. They were the first finnish drivers driving further than Ankara, first trucks left Finland in november or december 1974 if I remember right, there were at least 10 trucks from 3 different companies. I think these pictures are from 1975, last trip my father drove was 1976. Scania is -68 or -69
Thanks for that, nice pics, is your Dad still with us.
Roger
He is retired but still drives every now and then, at the moment he is in UK, I think. I have to scan more pictures when I have time, there’s also some from Tunis.
How long does it now take to go to Doha from the UK and how does this compare to the 70s? I am reading the Cola Cowboys at the moment. Are the long waits at borders outside of the EU still existing or have clearing customs speeded up somewhat?
I am glad to say I have also bought a copy of THE LONG HAUL PIONEERS I had it posted it to my parents house because I live in Germany and it is quite a heavy book = postage rather expensive. I’ll pick it up the next time I visit them. Am I forgiven?
You wnd’nt feel hungry if you had tasted some of Mr Wards cooking ,looks like he is not so sure what it is himself .thats the trouble with what looks like a rented step-frame trailer ,no trailer boxes ,still did’nt help some drivers with the cooking skills.
a lot were like flys when I opened mine ,there was always someone with ,got the kettle on then,‘o’ your cooking shall I get my plate

Oh sht yes your right but Im lost now I know both the guys in the pic the guy in the back ive lost his name, and the other I thought was Kenny Ward but he was never an OD as far as I knew ,help needed someone
Kenny Ward with the frying pan, was a driver with Mervyn King (M&C Transport Braintree} on several occasions as well as being an owner driver and a haulage contractor, on several occasions . He has Driven trucks to the middle east and Russia as far as Uzbekistan. He is presently running a haulage yard near Braintree i Think. The other Ken Ward you are thinking of worked for Grangewoods and sometimes posts on here. Regards Jamie.

A Scot Lost in the Valley’s.
Hullo Jamie.
Yes you’re right mate. Kenny ward from Braintree was, and I hope srtill is a great bloke to know, although I never tasted his cooking, but he was still a good bloke. The other Kenny Ward, the one from Grangewoods was also a great bloke, (that reminds me me I must answer his PM to me). But he was a YORKSHIREMAN, so was extra special. All the very best to both of therm anyway.
Cheers, Archie.

Oh Roger, that one will cause all sorts of grief on the “Stobart Trucks & trailers” thread about drivers using gas stoves on fuel tanks. Has anyone got a photo of a fire underneath the fuel tank■■?
Thankgoodness me marbles are still somewhat intact I thought that was Kenny Ward and yes now I think back what you say is all correct, dont detract from the fact he couldnt cook ,well not on that piddly little cooker ok for beens on Egmek .as long as its fresh
