Hi all another pic I found TIR donkey carts I expect every driver knows the road but I bet mushroomman even knows the name of the horses

The first time I went down this hill I was in a convoy followed by a driver (Norman?) from I think AWW we were doing their work -shipping Merlees-Blackstone engines from Stamford to Riyadh. We were all descending the hill quite slowly when I realised Normans 1924 Merc was along side me making a bit of a noise, I wondered what was going on and slammed on only for Norman to wave me on. I stopped at the bottom of the hill to find out what the problem was, Norman said that he was using the exhaust brake when the truck jumped out of gear, killing the engine. Instead of slamming the brakes on and stopping to sort it out he had re-started the engine and the tried to put it back in gear (crash box) he realised that he had gained a lot of speed and had to swerve around me to avoid crashing. A quick change of underwear and he was on his way-but he wouldnât use the exhaust brake again
Hi Mr G
not every driver has total recall but Dave Mackie and I think that this hill is in Romania on the E60 between Oredea and Cluj betwwen the villages of Borod and Ciucea we think the Hill is Kiraly-Hago? please let us know if we are in the right contry, as for the horse and carts we think it is the night trunk but they are running a bit late
Regards Ian
Hi All, igot the same problem with my brain cells, But!!! i think its the hill on the bottom road, the E70 somewhere between Caransebes and Craiova. I came down it in a blizzard once, the road was iced right up and grip was non existant, i pushed on as far as the TIR park at caransebes and parked up in the dark. Next morning the snow was banked up to roof level. It was 4 days before we could move. Regards Rob

Hi RS
John Williams Died inthe late 90âs at Geiselwind about 3 months before the banning of hand gunâs but I can not remember which year. He was and is still missed. along with Geoff (Knocker) Guy.
Regards Ian
That was about 1997 according to this BBC article. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/politics/21724.stm
I understand how that could have been relevant
I missed the Funeral and I miss the Man
we buried john on october 3rd at newnham, nr daventry, so he would have died around the middle of sept. Chris had spoken to me about bringing johnâs body home on the back of victoria and running on red diesel all the way, just so john could get one last one over the germans. In the end he was flown home. the best bloke i have ever worked for.
regards Rob
Hi Rob, The F16 belonged to Alan Douglas.

Hi Wheelnut
One of has the name of the Volvo wrong but I can not remember the name John gave the little DAF he had after the Volvo â â ?
I am sure we will be corrected or start a good debate
Regards
Ian
I remember him latterly with a driver on one and him driving another. The drawbar was Violet and I thought the Artic was Victoria. I dont remember what names he gave the 2500 DAF or the ERF
the erf was ERFULA. John bought the MAN for me to drive and the erf for himself, the first trip with the man it broke down continuously and i lossed all faith in it so i had the erf and john had the man to sort it out. i preferred the erf so we never swapped back.i cant remember the name of the DAF or the MAN

hi there, iâve just seen some stunning, old astran pics that i donât believe have shown up anywhere else on the net (i could be wrong). they are on the astran facebook site, unfortunately there isnât any info with them but i donât think itâll take the regulars on here to come up with something!! they are from the early days - scania vabis.
what2do:
they are on the astran facebook siteâŚ
Cheers for that information what2do, just had a quick look, quite a few pics on there!!
It would be good if someone with the technical ability could bring them (photos) over to this site - surely they would have more of an appreciative audience on here.
Donât know if thatâs possible what with copyright issues etc. I did hear that any pictures posted on facebook automatically become their property!!!
Maybe someone could post a direct link but I would think you need your own FB accountâŚor hack, sorry I mean use, someone elses like I did!!!

Re. previous comment - I do not think that copyright will be an issue. There are quite a few photos on that FB page that are copies!
A lot of those pics on facebook have been nicked off www.toprun.ch, Ferdy doesnât like his pics appearing on here. For anyone who doesnât know about it, there are loads of M/E pics on there, Bestbooties has a link to it at the bottom of his posts if you want a shortcut
Quite right Roger. Who is that anyway whoâs doing the facebook thingy on Astran. Anyone heard of him/them?

Another one for the O.G.M.T., where is this.

Dave.
that next truck looks like RJV Internationalâs F10, usually got a kiwi driving it. regards Rob
