I know that a few people will recognise the good looking fellow sat down as Peter Wall from Hick’s but does anybody know who the girl is ?.
I have a feeling that she was a British drivers wife and that she might of been Dutch or Scandanavian and I am not too sure where I took the photo.

Hi Steve
I think that the lady in the photo is Tye Jarvis Lady if I remember correct her name I think is Nana & I think that She was from Belgium
But there will be some one out there with a better memory than I have I hope.
Hi Ian, it’s good to know that there is still somebody around who can remember some of the things and some of the people that I used to see all those years ago. When I started doing continental work in my late twenties a lot of the guys appeared to be in their fifties and are no longer with us. We all met some great people and saw some really interesting places and it’s only through this site over the last two years that all these memories have been rekindled for me.
I wonder if this photo which was taken at The National Hotel in Belgrade brings back any memories for anybody.
Looks like it Mate its the parking in front and slightly to the right looking out from the hotel across the road, wonder if George and Georgina are still around ,George maybe not he was quiet old even in the early eighties ,this pic must have been taken around that time.

Getting back to the ME Where is this then…

Ian, I wondered if some of the ashphalt guys would have a problem with this one when I posted it…
It is between Al Mu`abba and Khamis Mushait in South West Saudi…All credit to Steve we know he can be trusted with a secret
I have a fairly new copy of the ancient BBC Doha TV show. Two DVD disc set, EU compatible. (It worked on my American laptop though ). You Middle East drivers are so cool, but it is not surprising to me that long-haul drivers on this side of the pond are not interested in anything that happens anywhere else. I have had many wonderful and scary experiences driving the USA 48 but nothing like you ballsy guys hauling all the way through Europe to, say, Iraq or Saudi (back before Bush ruined it ).
Anyway, I will mail you my Doha DVD set if you give me your post address. Rikki gets first dibs. The postage is my xmas present.
John, I don’t think it really required balls to do the job. The M/E run was frequently challenging but seldom difficult, most guys did it because it was enjoyable and in some ways, a form of escapism from the mundane life in their country of origin, a little bit like joining the armed forces I guess or running away to sea……
There are those of course, who consider they were special to have done it and been there, or maybe they consider that they were better drivers because they had done it, but I consider that we who did the M/E back in the 70’s & 80’s were privileged to have been around at the right time. As I have written before there were no Supermen …. or if there were I never met them …
30 years on I am still in the M/E, because I enjoy being here and like the life style I can afford, albeit there have been some breaks in between then and now.

I hope you are keeping a journal of your travels. You ever think of publishing any of your adventures? Your life? Now that I am retired, I make a little money once in a while from magazine articles re trucking. The public loves to read stuff by HGV drivers. All those 4-wheelers on the road: they can see the big lorries but they can’t see inside. What is behind the wheel and what you are doing is a big mystery to many folks.
Note to Big Al: Red must have a girlfriend over there!
I am new here and one of the reasons for the registration ist this thread. Since I was child, I´m interested in ME trucks.
Maybe, the famous german truck serie “AUF ACHSE” was also an influence
For a future modelling project, I am looking for some more photos of the 3 axle ASTRAN R 142 Scania
The pictures below were taken by my truckspotter friend Klaus (ASG Gripen) in Geiselwind truckstop Germany in the 90´s and first time published in the german truckspotter homepage: http://www.lkwfotoforum.de.
I habe the permission of Klaus to put them in here, ´cause he is looking himself for further infos
I read somewere here about a stopp in Geiselwind, after a tyre got flat, to fix it, may be Klaus fotos were made then.
I tried to contact IAN TAYLOR by mail on the adress announced on the TOPRUN thread but without success.
Thanks for your help/ comments.
Franz
There are a few changes to the picture in Toprun, Exhaust pipe, wide front wheels,…

Franz, it appears we need to join the site to look at any pictures, you could post them on here as it will make it easier for the members. If you allow it I will put them on here.
I think Ian Taylor, who is called bestbooties on this site will find your post in this thread or you can send him a private message!

Taken in Munich, Arnulfstrasse in the 1980´s.
To this time, in the Arnulfstrasse (near the central Station and Circus Krone in Munich) was the “Kombiverkehr” facilty, which is now outside of Munich town.
Maybe someone knows the haulier name. The plate is for MINDELHEIM (MN) in Bavaria- Germany.

Hi Franz,welcome to the site.
When I was a young man,I spent several years stationed in Herford,(Westfallen),and I was adopted by a family I have maintained a friendship with for over 40 years.
When I wa running to the m/e I would always spend a night in Herford on my way out and on my way back home.
I remember well watching Auf Achse on the TV when I was in Germany, very well made series.
If you wish to visit my site at Toprun, here is the link:

A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL WHO COME ACROSS THIS MESSAGE
While browsing through Micky Sargents ‘Rogues Gallery’ and thinking about some of the people who were doing M/E and beyond in the early 70’s the name of Alan Alltug ‘Tug Transit’ came to mind.
I first met him in about 73 when I was doing Italy in Dover customs and he had been doing M/E for some time, bumped into him several times over the years, the last being in the late 80’s and I think he was on the verge of packing it all in.
Does anyone know what happened to him?
Chazzer
