Hi DM46
There is nothing wrong with Roger AKA Rita after you have been subjected to the Animal in a good mood or in a bad mood Roger is charming to a fault. Still we are lucky as the Animal is a techno fobb.
Regards Ian

Just another photo of a load of trucks not doing the job.
Worked ma nuts off in my job an wish i took more time to take more photos!!
Gerry Wheelan once decided to make up a story, his idea was to wait till the story came back to him and see how much it had changed from the original…………and guess what?..our old eyes and old memories will sometimes lose their accuracy…
**Colonel…**For you to state “The legends became so because they spent most of their time not doing the job, getting drunk and running in convoy” is both inaccurate and over stated.
There were many great drivers around in the 70’s & 80’s and even before. They were from a broad spectrum of companies, some of who did the M/E run month after month / year after year, it was their lives, and they were dedicated professional drivers. However for every good driver there was at least 2 bad ones both owner and company who believed they were on holiday, you would find them at a border without a clue what to do, informing you that they had been doing the job for the last 10yrs……amazing no one knew them…….What they actually intended to say was that they did one or two trips 10 yrs ago… during which time they would stop at every trucker’s watering hole and go on the Efes. The real legends like the amazing Andrew Wilson Young and others were consistently professional for many years…They did not drink at every opportunity, nor did they travel in convoy. They were the professional legends of the Middle East.

Q…Andrew or Mike the quickest…That one was a little to close to call…Except Mike did stop to clean his cab even when he hit Mina Qaboos in 9 days.
Biffo
Yes u could be right, the front wheels do give it away, but Paulines I dont think so, the truck is facing the wrong way,Paulines had marker lines and were horizontal with the back of the resturant also there was an edge on each side about parking for 10 trucks if I can recall split in the middle so u could get out.
Rita
When did they stop using Trilex wheels then? as they were legal in the early to mid 70’s as Fiat used to fit them.
Ian
I dont think there was anyone quicker than Andrew wilson Young ,but you have to take into account the time behind the wheel was no longer than the average driver ,If andrew took 6 days to reach Doha, the average with rest every day was 12 days .Astrans transit time to Doha ,was 2 weeks.I did one trip with Andrew and never again I just wanted to see if I could keep up ,stupid me.I had to take 3 days off in Doha.
As far as I know Andrew was the onlyone who managed to obtain In and out stamps of Turkey within 24 hrs.some feat in the days when the road was bad after Istanbul, and worse after Ankara.Maybe if Andrew had slowed down a bit eaten some real food, he would be with us now. God bless him.
