YoungBrandon.FBI:
Thank you for your kind words above. My Dad; Frank or Frankie or FBI (or even “the member”!!!) Brandon would have been thrilled you all seem to remember him, and his antics so fondly.
I am his daughter Kelly and I look forward to reading more about his travels, friends and experiences in due course. I remember very clearly him doing the m e runs but was too young to understand really. Perhaps I may learn now.
if anyone has any good tales I would love to hear them, well some of them anyway, perhaps no x rated though thanks ha ha! Kelly Brandon
Kelly,
It was indeed a sad day when i read the news of Frankie’s demise.
I am not an ex driver, but worked for many years as the mechanic for M+C transport, Frankie done the odd job for my boss Mervyn, but also whenever he happened to be in the Essex area he would always call into the yard for a coffee / chat. That was NEVER a good idea for Frank as it always turned into a 2 or 3 day session in the local pub, the Ducane Arms !!
Frankie was loved by all, truly one of lifes characters, he had certain attributes which he was never shy of displaying, but that was just part ( literally ) of what made Frankie such a great chap.
It’s a great shame that he has moved on at such a young vintage…
Feel proud for being his Daughter the same as we feel proud for being his friend.
Regards Steve…

I had a really nice surprise today, quite out of the Blue I got a telephone call from Kenny Ward, he was in the area and was I at home. Well he came round and what a fantastic old chinwag we had. It was the first time that I’d seen Ken in the flesh for over 25 years, we are both a lot greyer now, and a wee bit older than we were then, but it was great to see him. I hope it’s not so long for the next time.
Hi Archie. I can appreciate your enthusiasm meeting up with Kenny. he phones me perhaps every couple of months and we usually do 2 Saudi’s 3 Doha’s 10 wheel changes during the conversation, what a character eh? we had a great get together when I last see him at Gaydon along with David Miller and other and other Grangewood buddies, the old memories go on forever and it’s great to reminisce. Glad I don’t have to pay his phone bill - good on yer Kenny - regards Fred
I see that Chris Hooper has a new article in the June edition of TRUCKING magazine. Robert
Great picture Robert.
Have we all died off or have we just run out of memories? We were down on page 3
David
I have just read an interesting article - driverless trucks. Could become a reality in 10 years time. The driver has to be in the truck, but on motorways, the truck drives by computer etc. Would certainly make life a tad easier on the middle east run, although I’m not sure how it would handle the Tonka drivers… Maybed a special upgrade would be required

I can just see the telex sent by the driver to head-quarters now: Cancelled and gone on the ■■■■■ Don’t worry mate, the lorry knows its own way home!
Nice picture below - don’t know who the artist is but it’s damned good!
Robert
I was wondering - has anyone ever met or come across any well known faces on their travels across Europe ? I was approached by Clodagh Rogers when I was having a break at an Restplatz- in Germany, she introduced herself and became very interested in our job and on another occasion I was in a traffic jam on my way home and near KOLN when a Brit registered Merc at the side of me gave me a toot and it turned out to be the daughter of Gloria Huniford although I cannot remember her name now. Hope some of the lads can come up with similar experiencess - regards Fred
Yes Fred. I bumped into Elvis one time in Dogubeyazit. He said he was looking for the “Heartbreak Hotel”. I directed him to the “Kent Hotel”
I won’t take my coat off I’m not stopping!!

Cheers Ron
I’m afraid I’ve never been turned on by celebrities or by celebrity-culture. My heroes down the TIR-trail were drivers who did the job really well and who got on well with everyone so were good fun to be with into the bargain! Robert
Thanks Ron - Your country needs you, shut the gate on the way out - hav’nt heard from you for a while, hope you are keeping as well as can be expected - cheers old matey
I don’t get turned on by celebs either Robert, I was just trying to open up a bit of chat, can’t please everyone, perhaps this is why the site has gone a bit quiet eh ? Anyway I wish you well

And you too, old mate! Here’s a Toprun T-shirt design to cheer you up.Robert
Actually Fred has a very good point.
I, for example, met the ghost of Bob Marley’s dog once on Tahir and gave him a bone. Mind, you could get some really good s**t in those days
