I took it with a pinch of salt from page one. Non-drivers who write truck-books always feel they have to ā ā ā things up, whereas drivers who write books tend to tell it how it is because one white lie at km 10 will undoubtedly undo them at km 679! Robert
There seems to some kind of Mix-Up I donāt remember being part of UCC or any Union ,I never cut any rates ,didnāt do the Job if the money wasnāt good enough,12 years with Astran ,through the Good and Bad times ,dabbled a bit ,did some internals in the East, made some Money ,saved as much as possible,Have home in UK and Sweden,so in other words Im all right Jack.

Thanks harry,al sorted now. Hope for some good reading as i one a four weeks holliday
There is loads of trucking books on Kindle about the M/E runs and other work.
Some are dirt cheap I got one for free via the lending Libary just about to get started on it.
Iāll dig the name up see if it means anything to anyone.
I think my first book went out on Kindle. When I was doing the publishing I thought I was on print to order, but I got conformation and a recite from Kindle saying it was now available as an on line book. As far as I know my wife managed to drag it back of, but it took the best part of a week to sort it out, and even after that Kindle said it was still available.
Iāve got a hard print editors copy that Iām going through at the moment and am trying to set up my W10 Ben system for the IRS, so when I get all that sorted out it should be availableā¦
Soldier Z there was a thread on here called Reviews by some guy doing reviews about books and Videos If I remember right he was called Dodger 69ā¦

Probably wonāt hear from GS for a while, last I heard from him he was up to his elbows in a Volvo Penta engine, trying to get it ready for one of his boats for the holiday season.Jeffā¦
Hi Guys
I just poached the wifeās iPad and had a quick visit to TN and what should I stumble upon !
Jeff, I got the old Volvo running sweet as a nut and then lo and behold it locked up. Circulating water pump bearing collapsed and seized, locking up the engine via the belts because they were all new and correctly adjusted. So, while it was down I whipped the engine out again and replaced the steering ram at the same time which is located behind the engine against the inside of the transom. Anyway all done now and the engine is going back in next week. Poxy boats !! Just like trucks !! Well it is a truck engine after all.
Anyway, sorry to slip off the road, back to Poggieās Scud.
The Turks named it that when we were running down during the Gulf war. It was so fast and when we were all racing back on the Syrian convoy empty nothing could touch it !! I blew liner seals on my 141 racing with him!! We always came close to the front at Bab el Hawa coming home.
I never knew him to have any mechanical failures during his time on Astran, reliable but that silly cab was a bit small, and Bob was a big fellah, but I never heard him complain though. Probably too hyped up because of the Scud status.
It used to be a plough in Czechā¦ha ha. Some of you will know what I mean !!
And yes, that is me in the photo with Bob, Barnsey and a Sudanese driver, on a break during the Kuwaiti convoy to Saudi. Photo taken by John Willie. I took the photo of the Scud at the Telex.
Good night all.
GS
Hi GS, good to here youāre still having fun and that boats are just as reliable as trucks.
Iāve been on this for a few months now, ā ā ā ā ā ā ā 555, 100kph @ 1400 rpm, speed limiter is set to 120kph, 57 tons as it is in the photo with baby B, but 73 tons with the longer tri+tri.
When I get it wound up full tilt at 2 in the morning, my first thought is of being at the front of the pack running from Homs to Bab- el- hawa.
And just for Robert 1952 it has an 18 speed Road Ranger in it. Iāve no idea what itās like on fuel, we just fill it up at the start of the shift, thereās no gauge on the pumpā¦
Still doesnāt answer my first question⦠Who was the guy in Aylesbury in the early 90ās with the Astran tilt and Leyland Road Train
Jeffā¦
Hi Jeff, the Astan tilt you saw in Aylesbury in the early nineties could have been Hoss International (Derek Horsley). He lived in or near Aylesbury, but he had a six wheeler transcon and done a lot of work for Astran. He left it down in Doha in the mid Nineties and I donāt know if he ever brought it home. The last time I ran with Hoss he had a 1925 Merc, when we were on the KFOR job to Kosovo. He was still subbing for Astran and had bought the merc as a seller to take to the middle east when the KFOR job came up, Chris Hooper was also on the same job at the time, subbing for Astran.
Regards Jamie.
