We have all had a miss understandings with other drivers, it can be more complex when the miss understanding is discussed in two languages, (neither fully understood by either party)
My own misunderstanding was betweeen Birecik and Kizletepe on a trip to Baghdad around 1982, I was running with two Swedish truck drivers who were on their first trip. There was an overtaking incident where one of the Swedish trucks was alleged to have put a turkish truck driver off the road. The details were being explained to me by one of the Swedish drivers at about the same time as a very irate turkish tanker driver pulled into the TIR park at Kizletepe. I felt it was my resonsibility to difuse the situation and went over to explain things in a rational manner. The conversation culminated in me being stabbed in my right earā¦this was described to me by the other Swedish driver who witnessed the whole scenario from the safety of drivers seat of his F89⦠Greatā¦
Following a lot of shouting, bad language and Idle threats on my part, the tanker driver pulled out the TIR park, the malaise had atracted the attention of three or four of Hickās who were having a cook up at the time. There was a quick assessment of the situation, a plan to kill the offending turkish tanker driver was quickly discarded on numerous grounds not least that we were in Turkey and all Turkish tanker drivers with a moustache look the same. An old army shell wound dressing that I had in my first aid kit of sorts was applied to my ear and a tied off on the other side of my head. I must have looked like a right dā¦k.
Having stemed the flow of blood from said ear and changed white T Shirt, set off for Zacho,
But full thanlks to the Hicksā s drivers who helped me to Haswah, took me to the French Camp near Abu Graib, insisted on staying outside the camp doctors office (a young lady doctor, quite attractive as I recall) whilst some painfull treatment was administered.
I never had a chance to say thanks to you guys, but thirty years laterā¦Thanks!!!
Thanks also to Freddie Stevens who was on for WaterSkills, an own account operator, who helped me back through Iraq, Jordan and Syria.

I do recall hearing about your Van Go incident ,did it help in anyway with the painting, I believe you were extreemly lucky not to sustain a greater injury, and yes vengence on a Tonka driver was not the thing to do in Turkey,as I found out when being cut up by a Kamikazi bus on the road down to Ankara ,smoke pouring out of my ears I got passed him, gave him the end of my trailer ,bad move on my part he got passed again and as he did the rear door opened and a bottle of coke smashed into my windscreen, I decided it was better to retire from that conflict ,wounded I limped into the TelexMotel ,and called it a day.

Hi Roger,
Good to see you back on here, back from the frozen depths of Scandinavia I guess. No my Van Gogh incident didnāt help at all with the painting, Iāve just had to shell out to have the hall, stairs and landing done.
Itās gone a bit quiet on here recently, no good arguments etc. I think Fredās on holiday again, dual destination job, one week at Kapicule and another week at loggerheads with the good lady.
Post some photos on Roger, you must have a few.
All the very best.

The Hejaz Railway, of TE Lawrence fame, now no longer. The last time I was in Damascus I had a look at the railway station which is beautiful, and has been preserved. Whether or not it will survive the current shenanigins is anyoneā s guess. Robert

Not exactly M/E but I thought it very funny
Iām not in the least surprised! I understand that they were in pursuit of the improbably rare Astran-liveried 6x4 ERF NGC āEuropeanā, as drawn by Benkku of Finland (pictured below)!! Robert
I took this photo in 1980/81 on the Koper/Tartous Ferry. I believe the two lads on the right drove for a Evesham Company, canāt recall their names. Can anyone put names to these drivers?

Hi Gordon, I am not sure about the guy on the left, but the second one is Ray Usher an M&C driver from Braintree. The third one looks like " Spud" a Spiers and Hartwell driver, the fourth one I cant remember his name but also with Spiers and Hartwell. regards Jamie.

I thought exactly the same thing Jamie, then last night i met up with John McClung who also lives here now, although he has not seen the pic he does recall Norman using that ferry one time way back as he had a long load to deliver to the ME ( Possibly along with Tony Baker with a 2nd load ).
