‘Jogger’s’ real name was John Roberts. I believe there was more than one John Roberts on Middle-East work. Robert
That’s right,I used to work with John Roberts on Chapman and Ball in the '70’s.
A great mate from Manchester.Although we did many m/e trips together I don’t have any pics of him.
I spoke to him via a PM on this BB a couple of years ago,he doesn’t post at all.
I told him last time we corresponded that he and I,and another mutual friend,Alan Jones,(Mr,Magoo), ought to get together for a chinwag.
But we are all running out of time,we’ve lost a good many good mates, keep the dream alive!

This must the ‘other’ John Roberts then, if he’s still with us. Robert

Was not there the man John Jones-Jack Corrie at Chapman and Balls to I seem to remember
there names?
Abandonded trailers a !!! in the middle '70’s. Who recalls the trailers dumped in various locations enroute to Baghdad, loaded with porcelain sanitry ware, (toilets, wash basins etc). I was tasked to locate them. I found then in Felixstowe, Europort, various laybys, The national Hotel had 6 dumped and the legs had gone through the tarmac, I had to arrange all the repairs etc to trailers and Car Park. Down in Mocamp Istanbull. Bloody nightmafe there were 36 loads dispatched, origanily 2 arrived, all rest were located and delivered except 2, I never found them…

I haven’t read Cola Cowboys since it came out in the early '80s but I seem to remember a reference to one or more police agents being tasked with touring the TIR-trail to try and piece some this jigsaw puzzle of the lost loads together. Any truth in that, I wonder? Robert
I think they were private eyes,Rob? Martintrux went to the trouble of using them to snare one of their star drivers on a deisel scam. They put two tecs in a car & followed the driver thru France & Italy ,photo’ing him filling up & then taking snaps of the pump when he left. Got him bang to rights & sacked him as soon as he returned to the yard. He had been with the firm for years. The MTX lads on here know who he is.( I couldn’t possibly comment!)

I believe this was the reason for C & B hitting the buffers.
I heard that they had subbed out a lot of work and paid the up front money, then the trailers were found on some airstrip on the south coast, loads still on board.
Considering how long C & B had been doing m/e and knew of the pitfalls, then falling for this scam.
Here are few more snaps of the Egyptian transport scene to whet the appetite of drivers wishing to use pharaoh territory as a land-bridge to the Arabian Peninsula. Robert
V.foreign to us -all them blue skies…
Terrific reminders Robert, cracking photo’s - As previously mentioned the loads that were abandoned in the South were located on the M4 at Membury Services when it was being constructed. As for the trailers that were ‘Dumped’ en route to M/E as most ex lads would know the man who had the job of locating them was Freddie Topham ex: Met Police, I met him on many occasions mixing with the lads and hoping to learn information on abandoned loads. Regards Fred
Robert, you’re a flippin marvel, mate.
Thank you very much for some wonderful nostalgic photographs.
