Assessment Drives Glasgow - GTG and Ritchies

I went with GTG for my class C and C+E. I called Ritches and the attitude of the woman on the phone was one of “your interuppting me from something else” so I called GTG and they were much more helpful. A lot of people like Ritches,I probably got her on a one off bad day but I was alway going from C to C+E for £2K upwards,I want some answers to questions and not rushed off the phone!
I also liked the way they let me pay my C+E in instalments rather than all at once. Made paying it a bit easier.
I found the instructors to be friendly and easy to talk to as well. I would recommend them but they are one of the pricier ones.

Cheers Snowman. It’s very much a wait and see now. See how Ritchies assessment guys feel on Monday and then after that make a decision based on experience of them, GTG and the lady Pat at Highfield Heavies.

I thought I was all ready to go to GTG but the cost of adding two days on to my training is a cost im not overly willing to pay. I’m usually a quick learner and pretty sure as with all things if you listen to the trainers and do what they tell you then I should pass in the time the standard course takes.

Had my assessment drive with GTG today to see whether 5, 7 or 10 day course was needed.

I was out with 2 instructors one instructing me and the other guy was new to it so he was being given instruction off the other.

I was to be fair a shambles with the 8 speed splitter gear box, constantly looking down to see the box and not watching the road. It will get easier to use im sure but it unfortunately contributed to me being told I need the 7 day course. Not ideal, as putting myself through this is proving really costly, I suppose Id be better with two extra days though than a resit.

Pulled me up on a few things that didn’t happen but could’ve happened. Although checking my mirrors, need to check them more incase im not clearig things. I do think at one stage if I’d continued to come out from a corner I may have taken a post out, at least that’s what I was told.

Not a great drive and I was slow and hesitant with it but probably focussed too much on that splitter gearbox. Too much respect given to it I think.

Hello, have you thought of using LAGTA at eurocentral ? My step son passed his Cat C there a couple of weeks ago,and was very happy with the instruction - and even reasonably happy with the cost.
I did my training with Ritchies a long time ago,and recommended them to the step son,but he had done his mechanics training there and wanted to use them.

Cheers skippy, I’ll give them a bell. Just looked on their site and they offer free assessment drive. Listening to most on here it seems lining up a drive with LAGTA, Ritchies and a visit to Highfield heavies might be the best way of progressing this.

I recently did my C and CE with LAGTA and they were excellent. Only thing is they aren’t registered to put driving training hours towards CPC. If you go on to do your CE with them they only have wagon and drag, no artic. Ritchies can put driving hours towards CPC for an extra £80 I think it is.

Thanks for that. I’ll have a look at that aswell.

Heard good stuff about them instructor told pal ( iv yay kin drive roon glesga toon sentur in thi summir ye kin drive anywhir way au that skurt aboot n no krash ) Worked for him … I went to Jim Mayer Kilmarnock so I would recommend those guys. We both passed so 50/50… But I had 2 minors he had 9. :sunglasses: :exclamation: . NO I CERTENLY AM NOT :unamused:

Skirt in Glasgow during the summer…whatever do you mean

It frightens me when the summer comes in and the primark babes battle for control against the matalan massive. Some really need to except that these places don’t cater for them and move onto the plus size stores. It would result in safer streets.

It’s hard to spot the good from the bad that much is true but when you do :open_mouth: you just know…To many fugly’s but another use for a tyre iron :grimacing:

Well today I paid £30 for an assessment drive with Ritchies. Best £30 paid so far, it was like a lesson at the same time as an assessment. The lad Jim was absolutely fantastic, explained everything in detail prior to driving, what he expects from me and how he expected me to respond to any instruction on the road.

I know it’s not fair to judge a company based on one assessment drive but I’m going to say my experience of an assessment drive with GTG and today’s with Ritchies is night and day. Ritchies were top class and actually it seemed like it was almost training to see how many days I needed whereas GTG was like a blind test to see how many days they could add on to their course.

Standard 4 days test on the fifth was what was advised by Ritchies against GTGs 7 days. To be honest after the experience if he’d told me more Id have felt comfortable with his recommendation due to the thorough and enjoyable at ease drive I had.

Cheers for those who have continued to tell me Ritchies in Glasgow were the way forward. Really feeling better about myself now. That is fully down to the assessor.

Glad you enjoyed it m8, there all good guys there.

You said you were looking to do your ADR, if you were doing C and C+E with them they would give you a very good discount on the ADR weeks course and it counts for 28 hours CPC credit too.

When do you start your training ?

Cheers buddy. Well I went with GTG for medical and study/theory package so the earliest date for theory and HP is 9th April. I Don’t know whether to try pull that forward at another test centre or just keep it and study the books well just to be sure. I’ve not really hammered the study with work commitments.

Desperate to get going. I felt deflated the other day but not put off, today has just given me a boost again. Going to cut ties with GTG though as I’ve not heard from them since Thursday morning either.
