I like that 3 over 3 Rog, i could see myself quite happily never having to come out of the right plane all day whilst on the road.
Thanks for the replies everyone. That 3 over 3 looks a nightmare! It took me long enough to master the 4 over 4 range change. I suppose with a bit of practice I would get used to it.

When I first had a 3 over 3 I kept trying to put it in the non existant 4th & 8th gear slots

Ive been driving a 08 Renault premuim 450dci
Automatic straight 12speed slow as ****I thought Renault’s had a great auto-box■■?
Its a good truck dont get me wrong but some of the hills its seems sluggish in the scania just drop it down 1/2 a cog the fly up the hill but with renault it seems to fall below the green before changing or if I use manual it drops dont 2 gears. On the motorway theres not much fault but when you want to overtake on a single carriageway e.g a tractor it feels sluggish if I have to back off. We have 2 of them so if I get the newer 1 see if thats any better.
EATON TWIN SPLIT
Proper mans gearbox.
Ken.
anyone old enough to remember the fuller roadranger with the back-to -front shift pattern? I found that out the hard way!!
Me too!!! no signs on the gearknob on that . I had one in a Guy Big J, and after 2 years still could not get the hang of the clutch brake knob on the back of the stick.

Yes mate, I too had the misfortune of driving one of those.
IMHO, the twin-splitter was easier to drive because of the more conventional gearshift pattern.
The 4 over 4 with a splitter and slap across on those Renaults are the most horrible little things i have driven in a long time. Use to think that set up was the bees knees but in the Renault, bloody horrible.
Is nobody going to mention the FODEN gearbox with the leaver on the dash, only drove one once, nightmare…!!! but I know alot of old hands swore by em.

I’ve heard about those, wasnt that in the old “mickey mouse” cab fodens?
didnt 16 speed F88s have a seperate range change lever as well?

i used to really like the knock across when i had a premium, although i prefered the version in the earlier MAN’s
stevie
Knock accross were alright on trucks that had done a few miles, but stiff new ones could make your arm hurt after day.

the earlier premiums were very stiff, then i got a brand new 04 plate that was pretty light from the off
Do drivers still wear corduroy trousers?
EPS I Love that gear box
Yes the F88 had the splitter lever on the side of the dash on the left.
The there was the MAN with the column change, we used to call ours the motorbike!!
EPS I Love that gear box
i am not sure if you are being sarcastic or not !
I really did find it a very good gearbox once you had learnt how to drive it as per the instructions.
certainly it was as quick off the mark as any manual box, but you did have to READ the instructions first.

No I do love the EPS not that keen on the teligent shift but the EPS spot on once you reset the memory.
Hi All,
16 speed F88s have a seperate range change lever as well?
Yes F88s & F89s and early F10s & 12s used to have a 4 over 4 with the splitter switch on the dash, a longish leaver in the 88’s & 89’s and then a neat little lever on th 10’ & 12’s
Also had hand throttle, which in the days before speed limiters - used to give you more throttle than the pedal !!! - termed as super charger mode !!!
