More secure work than trucking

That’s cos it’s a rubbish job and you can always get a foot in the door due to the high staff turnover, I did 6 years of it and hated it as did most of my colleagues but the majority of them were blokes close ish to retirement and just putting up with the crap rather than moving on - wish you all the luck though mate

I guess it depends on the area and route … i worked in london during 1999 and i agree it was hell lol

Just wondered if anyone has plans to change employers / profession in 2013.

I’ll be staying put for now as I like my job but Asda will be opening a new Rdc near me in 2013 so will probably apply because i think it might be slightly better pay and conditions than where I am now but I’m not a lover of supermarket work as I find it a bit drab.

I’m thinking of jumping ship to Asda as well. I heard that they will service 122 stores from the new Avonmouth RDC and will look to recruit at least 100 drivers. I worked at Asda Portbury for 3 years in the late 90’s and it was a good job then.

Where are you now Bald Bloke? I’m at NFT at Patchway.

Well I rang my boss yesterday to tell them I would not be returning. They were a bit shocked and thought I was joking, they even rang me at start time to ask where I was. Told them I had retired early. Not even going to look for a job for the next 2 months, good old army pension will see me through. After that I may look for something but it will definitely not be in the transport industry.

If all goes as I’m hoping it does, I won’t have to drive a truck any more before this year is over…

Still trucking, going to Saskatchewan to pull pikes, been offered the chance and this country can provide me and my family with no inspiration to stay :smiley:
