just recieved through the post an application form for quite a well known haulage outfit,looked at it and trying to decide if i should fill it in,on the front it says,due to legislation changes from 1 5 2004 all applicants are required to provide the following,photocopy of your valid passport including the photograph page and the front two pages containing the serial number,fair enough i thought but it carried on with full birth certificate which includes the name of the holders parents plus a document showing your N I number and name,all this before i even fill out the form,i do need a full time job but its ridiculous the things you have to do to get a job now,i reckon sooner or later you will have to give a D N A sample to prove who you are,all this just to drive an HGV,and its probably going to get worse
If it includes International work, then the need for passport details are self explanatory, and maybe the need to obtain D.O.B. birth cert, is do do with security. If your not happy with it, give them a polite call just to explain the situation, and put your mind at rest.

Licence I get, and a passport too as it’s to do with immigration legislation…I’d consider the birth certificate redundant as it’s covered by your passport and with regard to your NI and name, then last year’s P60 would suffice but it does seem OTT for an application form. ![]()

I had to supply a birth certificate to enter a works pension scheme. They wouldn’t accept passport or D/licence.
I recently had to send in proof of eligibility to work in the UK, copy of passport or birth certificate. I did find out the they are not allowed to put date of birth on the application form though, or at least you don’t have to fill it in.
Did the form ask you for your bank pin number as well? ![]()
Been filling in quite a lot of application forms recently and never come across any required ‘‘personal’’ type data as listed here.
I wanted to buy a TV on-line, they e mailed me and stated that they wanted a copy of my driving license and passport…And a copy of a utility bill before they could process the order (ebuyer.com)
I called them and explained how it was a gross invasion of my privacy and left me wide open to identity theft and explained how I would not be buying a TV from them ![]()
They said that they had to do things securely
What a load of old tosh!
I got annoyed at B&Q today as they wouldn’t give me a refund on an item without my postcode and house number. I don’t agree when these companies use situations like this to harvest data.

No, the system wouldn’t allow them to use the stores address so it seems I’ve temporarily moved to Bolton. Apparently it’s to reduce theft as people were stealing then returning items for cash. This raises the folowing;
- I know some criminals are dumb, but would they give their house details?
- I had a reciept.
- I paid by credit card so there was no cash involved.
Can’t understand why they are insisting on a birth certificate as it’s easy enough to get a copy of anyones if you pay the £9.25 fee. Used it a few times when researching family tree.

Getting a refund is not conditional upon supplying your name and address. B&Q don’t like giving refunds…

Nope, I can’t remember ever giving B&Q my address when paying at the till. As far as I’m aware the credit card company will not release personal details about card holders so would you care to explain how I gave them my address when making the original purchase.
