Us drivers up here pick up more work than the tarmac reps, dont like having to do their job for them but needs must !!!

Beware Hanson concrete “franchises”…they have now decided that it is cheaper to run a truck when it is out of contract and drop the rate by almost £10 a load…if you do 4/5 loads a day that can be £200/£250 a week!!! Also they charge customers £65 per hour waiting time and we get £22 out of that…they pocket the rest for doing nothing!! As said before get a solicitor to cast an eye over the contract…they have all the guarantees…the franchisee nothing…leave well alone. If you decide to have a day off they insist you have a relief driver or they will hire a truck in at £400 a day and charge you!! When there is no work they dont give a monkies…it costs them not one penny,but you still have to pay the finance,insurance,road tax,inspection etc and then try to draw a wage .

Im a new member and a Mixer driver too in Cardiff with Tarmac. Been at it for 12 years now. have to say Ive done pretty good out of it.
Had to do a lot of travelling last year with weeks away at atime in the Midlands. I modified my towbar to pull a caravan so it was OK
Got an O4 Merc at the mo and will be looking to upgrade in a few months as Ive been out of contract for 15 months.
Any Tarmac drivers know of any 09 mixers for sale or that have been handed back?
I`m gonna have to get a new contract now that we are merging with Lafarge just to make sure they keep me on

I am an ex Lafarge O/D.I was with them for a year after they merged Ennemix and Redland.They put all the Redland lot in charge and it went downhill from there.They couldnt give a toss if you didnt have any work.That was nearly 12 years ago and from what i hear nothing has changed. I had a franchise with Mixers hire lot on a three year lease.They wasnt much better.That ended in 2006.Now i do the odd bit of mixer relief driving but wouldnt go back to being a mixer O/D again.Very little work,too much over the top elf and safety,lazy reps and useless shippers.
