but I was born in the 50s, so I’m a 70s music fan
Faced with a choice of being social and listening to the tripe that lorry drivers come up with, sitting in a room with the smell of bad breath and body odour or being antisocial & sitting in my cab, I take the latter option every time, but I’m not antisocial by nature, I just don’t like spending time in the company of uneducated and unwashed idiots
We’re not Anti-social, we’re just unsociable.
I have noticed I am becoming more unsociable even at home. I am developing a total distaste for mixing with other people.
People I meet tend to be either Monied, and trying to keep a low profile, or Squeezed, and moaning a lot.
Either they don’t want to talk to you, or you don’t want to talk to them - about anything of any importance.
Thus, one sticks to Politics, The Weather, and Religion to play it safe.
If feeling especially suicidal, you could always play “guy down the pub” for a day, and breeze into a RDC waiting room with lines like
“You should have done those roadside checks Burt, - I called Vosa this morning”
or
“'Twas ME who phoned the agency and undercut your rate so you got cancelled at the last minute!”
or
"'Ere, Bob, your 14 year old daughter is a bit of an alright!"
or
“Spurs are crap. I like Norwich, with their extra foot and all!”
I reckons you’ll be getting a bit more than a hearty ‘■■■■ off’" and a slap on the back!

Having spent several hours in the company of Tom Ravenscroft last week I can concur!
Doesn’t he sound familiar?
He does doesn’t he. I love his shows, same rambling presenting style as his father.

Best thing I ever bought for the lorry
I’ve been in my current job 2.5 years. When I first started I used to say hello to everybody at work but I got the feeling that if I had’nt said hello to them they would’nt have bothered. I soon encountered a few guys who were really grumpy/moody and now I simply don’t bother with anybody other than a couple of people who I know are sound.
I go in to work, get my route and go straight out. At the end of the day I don’t need to be friends with these people. Out on the road I’m my own boss, if there’s a problem I call the call centre. I don’t have a problem interacting with the customers but really the only part of my job that I actually enjoy is the driving.
