What does s trailer catching fire have to do with the drivers ability to drive?

If you knew about investigating fires you would probably noticed that the fire started from the back of the trailer as visible on pictures in the link, that means that someone was cooking his breaks ( note that 27 -26 is downhill ). In last two weeks I had to pick up two trailers with their wheel nut indicators melted - does it ring somewhere ?

So a fault in the wiring loom at the rear could have shorted causing the plastic light cluster to melt causing it to catch fire is out of the question then :open_mouth:
The fire wasn’t at the back of the trailer
OR
a tyre had popped causing the rubber to melt catching fire
Tyres are intact, and no overheated tyre smell whatsoever
OR
the breaks had just been done and the FITTER had wound them on a half turn too much causing them to cook (not the drivers fault there then)
Again, no smell whatsoever of overheated brakes
OR
the Waste paper self combusting inside the trailer
Waste paper and waste paint, a dangerous combination
OR
yep the list goes :unamused:

I take it a small fire ignited inside the curtain by that picture

What have the drivers breaks got to do with the fire? Are you suggesting he was over his hours?

Think that one went over their heads Seany

Aye woody. I much prefer the friendly and intelligent forum!

Yeh. How come the spelling standard has suddenly improved around here? :unamused:

MisterStrood:
Most of RTA involving an HGV is caused by driver negligence not by “accident”.

So what was the driver supposed to do given that there is a speed limit and that using exhaust brake will only slow down a wagon so much?

Usually when a truck sets on fire from the brakes its down to a mechanical failure, usually an air leak, not driver error.

Oh and by the way Mr Perfect, this is not a RTA. RTA stands for Road Traffic Accident. This was not an accident. This was a single vehicle incident caused by mechanical failure.

There was no indication that this was caused by mechanical failure. As the vehicle was carrying waste paint, waste paper, tyres etc, I would respectfully suggest that this was a case of spontaneous combustion. If the waste was stored incorrectly, it can easily catch people out…

the OP obviously knows more than that’s in the press :unamused:

Oh I very much doubt that Nick.

Still having that chip on the shoulder…

No chip on my shoulder fella. You made a statement, I refuted it. Was I correct, or was I incorrect? Simple question requiring a simple answer. You seem to have cornered the market in simple btw.
