Another ferry crossing. Solved by Antos

Antos:
Dont know the crossing name but would take a guess at Mali, formerly French Sudan, possibly the River Niger

No not Mali and not the Niger river. When we was in Mali we tried to get a boat from Mopti to Timbuktu but the water level was too low, so tried driving there after two days of sand-mating give up. I would have loved to be able to say I had been to Timbuktu.

some where in sierra–lone (spelling)

No not Sierra Leone. :frowning:
Clue: The river we are crossing is a tributary of the river Congo.

Another guess, Ubangi River, Central African Republic??

Yes Central African Republic the river is the border with the Deocratic Republic of Congo or Zaire has it was called back then and that lead to even better roads.

how weird I am just reading about the C.A.R. A relative was the presidential pilot for Colonel Gaddafi in the 70’s and 80’s and I am reading his memoirs. My first cousin was on his way to pick up Idi Amin and was incarcerated in Bangui when he landed for fuel :open_mouth: Apparently they were held at gunpoint by two Pygmy soldiers and a big fat bloke :sunglasses:

We had three days in Bangui waiting for visas for Zaire. It was the only place on the whole trip I did not feel safe too many people with guns walking around did not see anybody there smile. I was glad to get on the move again. The ferry crossing in the photo was just outside Bangui.
