And we wonder why people don’t like us [Merged]

the maoster:
I’ll tell you the difference between a car doing 50mph in lane one and a lorry doing 50mph in lane one Jake. Assuming good road conditions of course; the difference is that when you pull out to overtake the lorry you know absolutely and completely how the overtake is going to pan out, no drama whatsoever. However, pull out to overtake the 50mph car and you die a little inside because you know that (with a few notable exceptions) that once alongside the car the driver is going to subconsciously accelerate slightly because his/her brain is telling them that they don’t want to be stuck behind a smelly lorry.

One of two or three things then happen; you either spend mile upon mile engaged in an elephant race, you can’t go faster, you can’t back off because A N other lorry has filled the gap behind the car, the car accelerates away, you drop back into lane one, it immediately eases off the gas and the whole sorry thing starts again, or lastly you’ll eventually pass the car who will then immediately overtake you, come back in front and then slow down.

So that Jake is one of the reasons that lorry drivers aren’t the biggest fans of cars “dawdling” on multi lane roads. Hth.

Must have missed this post yesterday but thank you maoster for confirming what I have been saying all along. The car doing 50 is not putting himself in danger but is a great inconveniece to the speed of most lorries especially if they speed up and slow down without realising it. Exactly what I said earlier…it’s an awkward speed for a lorry but absolutely no excuse for intimidation that goes on.
Oh and Rob you need to read my posts more carefully before making silly accusations of me travelling at 50. I have said many times I would never do that unless of course in a limited truck

You know what Jake? I agree 100% with you that lorries intimidating other road users is unacceptable under ANY circumstance. It makes me cringe when I see it because of the extremely high visibility that the size of our vehicles create. The whole argument however is cyclical as we can go around all day without tackling the real issue here; education or lack of. I’d like to see a highly visible police presence to deter bully boy tactics, but I’d also like to see them pull dawdling car drivers over to explain to them that whilst not illegal it is certainly inadvisable to put themselves in such a position and explain that merely by increasing their speed by as little as 5mph they could make the whole problem go away.

I think it is nice that Jake, uk and cav all agree with himself and back himself up but when it gets argumentative he forgets his alter egos and only argues as himself.

Excuse me? I’ll have an apology for that. I am neither of Jake nor am I UK Tramp. I have my OWN opinions thank you very much. I am quite happy with anyone disagreeing with me but not making out I am someone else.

No matter how many rules you create, some people don’t get it…[emoji5]
