Sorry fellers, not very polite of me to leave the subject hanging…begins with S and made in Sweden…I’m not going to state the name out loud in case it affects how much they invoice me
The thing with DAF is that DAFAid is the pride of the company, they sell trucks from the promise of backup alone, I have attended anything from a Transit Van to a double decked Van Hool coach with a volvo engine, they just will not refuse a job, it adds a bit of variety to your day though!
If parts are required we usually just go to the nearest dealer and get them, no matter what the badge on the front is.
When I had my own unit, I joined the RAC commercial breakdown scheme. Used them once, (mentioned it recently in another thread) they were very good. Its some years ago now, don’t know if they still do it.
Think Spanker might have the right idea sticking with one make.

Agreed, I ventured into a Mercedes Actros, and although its a lot of truck, the local dealers “Intercounty” are absolute awful.
Put the truck in for a full service while our customer had a 2 day shutdown, and picked it up with only half the work done as it needed to go back in 2000k’s as the rest was not due until then.
After telling the numpty that 2000k’s is a week worth, he relented and done it, but charged the earth for the oils. Not been back since it gets done at the MAN dealers now. There have been other issues with them but I am only on an 11 overnight so dont have time to list it all
Glad it’s not just me to have my lederhosenpulled down for a corporate botty slap.
DAFAID have always been good if I’ve needed breakdown, however, last Saturday’s shenanigans with Pelican Daf at Normanton have made me wonder if I have ‘tool’ tattooed on my forehead.
Dropped the old girl in for its annual ‘topset’ collected it Saturday afternoon, by the time I was climbing up the hill away from m1 j39 towards home she was smoking like Leonard Cohen and had all the combined power of Betty Turpin and Mavis Riley.
1 call to pelican, ‘can you bring it back?’ no I can’t, as if you’ve over tightened anything disaster may be lurking… ‘oh right I’ll send the lad out who set it up’.
Out he comes, re-does the topset in our yard, test drive…all good. cheerio says boy wonder…no charge obviously but he wasn’t going to admit what was wrong.
5 days on, invoice for £168 for the topset followed by £168 for the remedial work caused by them!!! no returning of phonecalls…this could get messy as I haven’t had a good old Trading Standards event for a year or two… be warned, the service mob down there are ‘lively’.
Madders, that’s an all too common occurence today, you take a motor in for work, they ■■■■ it up then charge to put their ■■■■ up right
Just as bad are the tossers that have no idea what’s wrong, because their computer isn’t throwing out codes, so they just start swapping parts until it cures the problem, I just had a similar thing, being told I needed a new water pump, when all it really needed was a new header tank cap as the old one wasn’t holding the pressure, rad cap was a tenner, water pumps are a grand fitted
Merc can be really bad, depending on the dealer, Scania are useless, they only ever do half a job, Volvo not much better, Iveco should stick to fixing Transits, they have no parts stock for anything bigger, not had much experience of MAN, but from MMTMs they’re no better than the rest, I’ve had good experiences with Renault, but Daf are the best service network by far, if a call out is involved, nobody can touch them.

when DAFAid wanted a GOP of £750 for a fitter to attend a breakdown, he could not fix, so called a recovery truck to move the broken down truck less than 1/2 a mile into the nearest layby theis was on the A34 at Oxford on a satruday morning and the fault was a crack on the fuel filter housing, thus drawing in too much air
please don’t hate me as i am not a driver …lol found this thread interesting …did DAFaid for 10 years …though all dealers no matter what manufacturer run their breakdown cover differently ,where i work ,we had 3 dedicated mechanics and 1 electrician…we where the only people who attended breakdowns ,we kept the vans 24 / 7 …our tool boxes where permanently in the vans ,and if a job came in ,apart frompossibly a quick trip to the stores we where generally on our way in minutes…with dedicated lads doing the breakdowns turn arounds where generally quick ,as by the time you get to the job you have it diagnoised and know precisely what your are doing …unfortunately no trade is perfect …be it mechanics drivers doctors etc
but is nice to hear compliments about DAF aid thanks
oh aye…
Pelican made some stroppy noises then I finally got to talk to the workshop head honcho, explained the scenario to him, he said “ah sorry for the ■■■■ - up - no charge” end of.
Paul Bugg they call him, sensible chap in a hell hole of retards.
how many of the bigger firms get their leg lifted with these buggers sneaking spurious bills through hidden amongst the legit. ones■■?

Is it just me? or anybody else wondering what a topset is?
annual ■■■■■■■ engine set.
Jake brake and valve train backlash adjustments…like a tune up in a sense, just keeps the lump sweet.
ah now i see. thanks.
