am i nuts

Pancho. Those flags are daft. A long strip of cloth with France,Italy or Spain written on them. Some have International driver.
Now that is sad.
Do you remember the furry clogs made with real cow hair and the real Euro drivers fashion look was the wallet with a six foot long chain with three weeks running money inside.?

Points taken lads. I didn’t realise how ■■■■ it was in the real world. Suppose I just got sucked in by false job ads. But I may take a few days holiday and do some agency work to remind me how good I’ve got it. As regards of the “real lorry” I meant anyone who has driven a ■■■■■ cart will know you have knowhere near as much comfort or handling as a bendy, I wouldn’t care how pimped it was.

or even do the odd Saturday

Yeh Toby, I remember all that Junk ya could buy for your motor if you wanted but I never have. I honestly can’t see the point in stupid poncy frilly curtains & that many lights on ya motor it looks like a ■■■■■ Blackpool tram going down the road.

I aint boring, I just like a lorry to be clean & serviceable, I certainly don’t want the inside to look like a tarts palace…its a lorry FFS there to do a job.

And here’s me slagging off the pointless stupid [zb] light boards and the rest of the ■■■■, and you have just gone and reminded me I was guilty of all those things you mention in the 80s  (along with the Cowboy boots, mullet and tache).Cheers toby :unamused:

I don’t know weather I’m doing the right thing or not, I now drive a refuse truck for the council I earn £24000 a year Mon-Friday 7.30-15.30 but most days I’m done about 15.00. The job is changing fast though with more properties being built meaning a big increase in work. Anyone who has done the job knows you have to get in and out of the cab a lot (about 300) Times a day, which after 10 years has made my hips to start hurting. Anyways I used to drive c+e lorries and want to get back to it preferably driving for a large company, am I nuts?

Firstly, as a council bin truck driver you shouldn’t be moving from your seat apart from at the start and end of your shift. Don’t tell me, the crew you’ve got told you it was your job to help them, right? Oldest trick in the book…

Secondly, as you’re working for a council, all of which love justifying why they do the absolute minimum they can get away with, why are you not in cahoots with your crew to make sure that these new houses on your run don’t get collected due to “not having enough time”? Or you could drag the job out and do them, but not get back to the yard til 6pm for a couple of days and then go and tell your manager that they have to take them off you as you’re not doing 3 hours overtime for no extra pay. There’s all sorts of ways you can work this to your advantage if you put your heads together.

Bobby b I did 14 yrs with the council and its when you retire the benefit kicks in a reasonable pension that makes life a bit easier and I will be the first to admit it was only another job when I started there. If you have 10 yrs in I think you should hang in there. I left at 62 to have a go at artics again before I retired I had not realised how much pressure you are under nowadays plus the easylife with the council had not helped I ended up with stress and suffered a mental breakdown and had to give up the HGV licence. So have a good think before you make a move.
PS Think of the 3pm finishes you could end up halfway through a 15hr day at that time. Eddie.

Stick where you are. You sound just like the rest of the moaning, whinging public sector. :unamused:

You want shagging with the rough end of a pineapple for even thinking about giving that up ,

I think some on here need to change there line off work :open_mouth: bunch off happy Truckers

Itchy feet is all you’ve got and possibly Greener-grass syndrome brought on by a green-eyed monster.
Stress is a killer of careers and people. Choose/get/change a/your hobby.

If you’re having problems with your hips, the worst thing you can do will be to get a job where you move around less.

Are you employed by a local authority, or an agency? What are your holiday entitlements? Sick pay? Pension? Look at all these things before you think about changing. The grass may look greener, but it’s probably just longer and harder to walk through.

If you are employed by the council I guarantee that your Ts & Cs are a hell of a lot better than nearly everyone posting here. You get 5 weeks annual leave (at least) and you can choose when you want it. You get full pay when sick for six months. You have an index linked pension on top of your state pension to retire on.

Dustcarts usually have low cabs to make getting in and out easier - are you sure that your problem is work related? Go see your doctor and get referred.
