Agency drivers are you getting more work now ? (poll)

Bugger sitting in a rest room for 8 hours… I’d rather be working those 8 hours thanks very much!

More or less the same for me, still have to nudge the agencies with my availability.

I was expecting a bit more cash like £11/12hr but it hasn’t happened and am now only doing jobs that pay £10 or more. There seems to be plenty of that now, got a call for a job last Friday, asked the rate, £8.50 she said, £10 I said? Ok then she said…

And unexpectantly got a call today and am now fully booked up till the 19th December when I start me jollys.

You can actually do that? I tried it once and was told no.

As an update on this…yes I`m earning more per hour since the cpc kicked in.

From what I`ve seen and heard, the agencies in this area (east mids) are crying out for drivers and all of them have increased their rates.

About time too.

If they’re still crying out for drivers - they didn’t raise their rates enough.

It’s a hard mindset to get past “raising rates more than once a year, and by significantly more than inflation”.

Perhaps some agencies in the regions will now do the honest thing, and go bust…

I’ll second that. I can’t speak for other regions round the country in relation too if there’s a shortage or not but there is a massive shortage in the East Midlands. I’m in Leicestershire and the rates have gone up significantly in the last few months. This isn’t just the Christmas rush either!

It’s eased off around me (Derby/Alfreton) at the moment.

There is work, but it’s the crap stuff. Retail Multidrop Handball. Drivers seem to have used the mad panic to tie up the easy jobs. It’s left the ones who didn’t increase rates on crap work struggling for drivers. Easy picking’s have all gone.

It’s having a bit of a downward effect on rates too, seem to be settling around £10 Ltd on days. Lots of ad’s offering more but 99% are agencies fishing then trying to push you into Co-op who seem to be top off the desperate pile, at £9.50 for upto 5 drops into tight stores all handball with empties and waste to go back they are destined to stay desperate.

The september panic is looking like a bubble, things are going to revert to normal. Shame my retirement plans may have to wait, but still made enough extra to take most of Jan off. Lanzarotte will def be warmer than here…

Can’t speak for personal experience with the Co-op at Alfreton as its too far to commute but surely if there desperate they’ll negotiate on the rates, even though I’ve got a good thing going financially and with what the job entails with where I’m contracting too I still keep an eye on work around this region and always see numerous agencies advertising for the Co-op. I’m doing a fair bit for ASDA at Lutterworth at the moment and I managed to get £2.50 an hour more than what they were originally advertising, when I asked I was expecting the usual “ooh we can’t really do that”, “we hardly make any money off you” etc but without even pausing or thinking about it they said yes.
