From what little I know of actually driving ‘50s & ‘60s lorries, I would rather have driven an top end AEC than an ERF; but would have preferred ERFs in the ‘70s.
That’ll do nicely thank you (except for that b loody ladder). Why oh why was there no bottom load and discharge in my day?
How did we manage with those small rear view mirrors?
Were they so small in order to keep it all streamlined? High top speed and good economy?
Grumpy, I got my top load accreditation at a small, old, remote terminal. I reckon I was one of the last to get a top load accreditation.
This photo was posted on here some time ago, IMHO it’s one of the best photos of an old workhorse lorry that has ever been posted. It’s had a hard working life, it’s battered and bruised, and it’s still working. It’s what lorry driving was all about back in the day for us more mature fellas.
I’d bet a shilling that the inside of the tank is spotlessly clean.
If I was a lot fitter and a bit younger I would start tommorow.
