Not quite a worldbeater, even with the marathon 2 the brakes would scare the living daylights out of you ! Leyland should have fitted Scammell or Guy brakes !
I’ll second that Trev, until the ones on mine were sorted they were the worst brakes I’ve ever had to use on a motor.
I remember as a kid that a F88 ran away down Pool Bank and it was said " these new Volvos have poor brakes",but at the time they were probably a vast improvement compared with the older stuff around, what i was trying to say with the Marathon was that with the cab being taller and the interior much superior to the ergos its a shame it hadn`t come out a few years earlier and fitted with the V8.the cooling system would have been far better and a fuller 9 speed more appropriate
Great thread on the AEC V8.A few items left to me by Pete Mountford an AEC salesman, who subsequently went to Leyland at Preston. If you click on the individual photo`s or documents you can zoom in or out to get a better view .
Do we know where that photo was taken because it looks like a Hannomag or Bussing to me but no lion if its a Bussing or could it be a made up cab for testing chassis & drive lines so we didnt know what make it was
Strange one this, I can’t match the badge up with anything I’ve got and as someone said it has the Leyland shape, AEC did supply engines and components to Willeme of France until Leyland stopped this sort of interaction. The closest the cab shape comes to is the Hanomag-Henschel but they had distinct badging. It actually doesn’t look real, the screen is opaque and the wiper looks like it fits to it, this should produce some theories unless someone knows the answer. Franky.

Thought the same suedehead, but the badge looks like a Leyland badge on grille.

Second photo down is of an AEC export bus chassis.Pete Mountford is second from the left. But what is the lorry to the rear Any ideas anyone
Looks like a Dennison ?. . think they were Saurer cabbed?
I think it was Suzu?(sp) from Finland that built those style cabs that Dennison used?
Might be Sizu.
Dennison did indeed use the same cab as the Finnish Sisu lorries for a while, altho I thought it was a stock Motor Panels cab - happy to be corrected though.
The cab Dennison used for their 1970’s M Series was supplied by Sisu but that isn’t the cab in the AEC photo, I’d go for a Willeme as AEC were heavily involved with the French company, again though these had the name in chrome letters on the front with the AEC badge below on the grille and the pic I have shows a slightly different cab anyway. Franky.

Looked at the pic again . . and it looks like a Henschel(spolling).
Didnt Frederiki(spilling) . . Swiss firm used to run them ?
As I said previously its a Henschel, there’s plenty on Ferdys Toprun site for comparison. Willeme lorries bear a passing resemblance but are a bit rounder.
