There is an AEC v8 coming up in the Kevin Dennis sale if anyone fancies a serious restoration project, details on cheffins website.

It’s RKJ 512G, which I think was Johnson Brothers

I expected to see a complete wreck, but the “kit” contains a sound-looking cab. It appears to be of the “straight door pillar” type, if that makes a difference (see above!).
There are also a few V8s on pallets, among loads of other interesting stuff.

Would it have to be re registered , it looks like lots of parts but not complete is there a chassis or back axle?
So is this newly restored V8 going to appear at any of the shows?

I would hope so next year, if we’re still not hiding away from Covid-19.

According to details by ERF earlier in this thread it is in two halves… it doesn’t say that in the auction catalogue. The registration number should be able to re-claimed, providing it hasn’t been sold. But will anyone be interested in restoring it these days? It will be a massive and costly project.
Congratulations to ERF.
The three V8s belonging to Henley Transport: OKK160F, OKL410G and CGH420H are in this picture. Since all three appear alongside the ERF LV AKJ220K in the foreground then they seem to have survived in service longer than folklore would assume. CGH has a white number plate, OKK has a beacon on the roof.

Funny you should state that , i was convinced i was going to win the Euromillions last week and i had a few AECs on my list , unfortunately it was all a dream . Is Colin Pitt a restorer , there used to be an old AEC MM8 chassis parked on waste land opposite a garage in Otley i am guessing it was his , there were some old cabs and spares at the side of the building too
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Yes Colin Pitt was a restorer and he had several restored Seddons that he took out to several shows every year. He also did restorations as a business. He bought my Seddon FRC 805C when I put it up for sale.

…The project is completed, the AEC Mandator V8 is restored in its original owner’s livery and the result can only be described as absolutely stunning. Without a doubt this has got to be the most complete, meticulous, and thorough restoration of any lorry in the UK. The time and money invested in his project is probably incalculable. ERF has got to be congratulated and I am in awe of his skills.
Thank you very much for your kind comments Graham, they are much appreciated.
All those involved in the project were the very best people in their respective fields, and I am immensely pleased with the end result.

Just a very quick post to offer some background to anyone interested in the AEC lots in tomorrows Kev Dennis auction.
All of the AEC items offered were owned by a friend of both ‘Gingerfold’ and myself. He had intended to restore them all, but sadly passed away in 2018.
Almost all of the V8 parts were spares that were not needed or were left over from my V8 restoration. The restored cab was a very sound high datum ex MoD Leyland Bison structure bought by me from Peter Martindale of Chorley back in the mid 1990’s. I sold this cab and a donor V8 cab to the previous owner, and he used both to have the basic Bison structure converted to low datum AEC V8 specification by a professional restorer at very great expense.
The cut off unit front end is indeed RKJ 512G, (VTG4R 024), ex Johnson Bros, and is I believe actually the oldest ‘surviving’ V8. I found this in a Tattershall scrapyard around 20 years ago, the back end having been cut off by them in the 1980’s to make a farm dolly. They still had the back end on their associated farm, any probably still do, but flatly refused to sell it!. The rolling chassis offered is (was) VTG4R 209, ex Benton Bros, which I aquired in this form from Joe Hunt’s scrapyard at Molesworth, and this was to be the basis of the restoration.
The V8 engines being offered - two are AVM8-801 13.1 litre units that were crudely turbocharged and used in the 1980’s for tractor pulling. Both are industrial units I seem to recall, and both were severely damaged both mechanically and by frost.
The V8 block on the stand and it’s associated parts in the crate are actually a ‘four rocker cover’ prototype AVM8-740 V8 engine with Unified imperial threads and AEC roundels on the rocker covers. This was the ‘spare’ engine for my V8 when it was operating commercially, and is the only prototype AEC V8 engine survivor that I know of.
Welcome back ERF!
You not tempted to keep the V8 stuff? You could start a museum with that lot!
PS any photos of your own V8?
Great to hear from you ERF and just in case you haven’t been reading, congratulations on completing the project.
Brilliant that you are back ERF , you could be accused of teasing if you dont post some photos   . It
s entirely up to you but i can imagine there`s a few on here that would love to see the completed AEC so no pressure there then , again welcome back
For those of us who can only dream i would love to see some pics of the Mandator with its V* power pack on full display
I never doubted for a moment that ERF would be back among us when necessary. As usual, he only posts when he has something meaningful to contribute. I have learnt much from him.
I was very lucky recently to have purchased the V8 mandator restoration kit at the Kevin Dennis sale upon getting it home and actually seeing it i then realised what a good and thorough job the previous owner did that now puts me in the very lucky position of owning three V8s being 024/056 and 209 my main priority is 056 that i purchased of a very good friend of mine who did an excellent job of restoring her but in true ergo fashion she now needs a bit of tlc and to sit back and think what the future holds for the other two that are now safely back in my yard

Good to hear they have been saved , do you have any history ie , the owners from new or any photos ?
Did anyone on here drive a V8 AEC and if so how did they compare with the big swedes at the time, and did any company successfully operate 1 for any length of time on regtular work?
