CALUM:
I used to clear at the huningue border fairly often when going to swiss, found it much friendlier than basel st louis but have heard it is closed for trucks now.

Yup, Huningue border is closed for trucks :frowning: .

Do they still fine you if you have a drip of oil on the engine? It used to be the done thing to stop a few miles before the border and give her a wipe down. My last encounter of the wonderful Swiss border gestapo was with a race truck. They had (back then, not sure about now) a Europe wide exemption for motorsport and we were not to be treated as trucks, but just as large caravans for transit costs (and also to save queuing at St Gothard) and we carried the paperwork from every countries transport authority. Anyway, this particular watchmaker was having none of it and insisted I paid the full amount which was about ten times the price and more importantly, far more than I had to spend in sw francs and TBH, more than I was willing to pay in any currency. He just kept measuring the truck with a bit of cane that he flipped over as he walked down the length of it and demanding a fortune and refused to read the paperwork from the Swiss Ministry. I just sat there and let the queue build up until his boss came out and tore him off a strip. They really are pretty obnoxious little people aren’t they.
Little wonder it was the only country in Europe that even Hitler didn’t want…Always nice to remind them of that fact. British diplomacy and all that

I find Swiss people very boring and unimaginative, and I always think that if Switzerland had been designed by the Swiss, it would be considerably flatter.
