advice on job interview

First thing is, turn up! If you can’t then call and say so.
Turn up well presented! Bugs the life out of me when drivers turn up looking like they have spent 2 weeks in the cab without washing.
be polite, ask what matters to you and if you take the job and later change your mind, for goodness sake just tell someone.

NEVER burn your bridges
Good luck

Go on then what did you wear and what questions did you ask ? Congratulations anyway.

thanks. I wore some smart dark jeans and a black shirt so I wasn’t too smart or too casual. think I struck it lucky as he covered most of the topics you guys said to bring up, money, type of work, hours and pay. they do a lot of adr work so they will put me through that after my first 3 months. the fleet is all relatively new trucks so don’t have to worry too much about major breakdowns or faults which is one less thing to worry about while I’m getting to grips with it. just cant wait to get started now

Dress like you would for work. The assessment will be the same as when you go out usually. Checks, tacho, they might show you how to use their checksheet (obviously will be the same as everywhere else, to a point). Drive the way you usually do (slow down a tad if you’re usually quite quick). Be polite, sir/ma’am, all the ■■■■■■■■.

You’ll ■■■■ it mate.

Well done

He did !!

Congratulations, first foot on the ladder… Onwards and upwards mate

If they are a general haulier the chances are they pay crap wages and are desperate for drivers. I wouldn’t be overly concerned about too much competition for the job. Especially if you’re of the rare and sought after breed of being young and speaking English.

you need to ask the following questions:

  1. How do you treat drivers?
  2. What’s the pay per hour?
  3. Do you pay for breaks and POAs (yes, there are some companies that do not pay for POAs, including those that pay set weekly salary, any POAs you do, you are the one who pays for them)
  4. If pay set amount per week, how many hours do you need to do per week including POAs and breaks to earn your money?
  5. Who pays for damages caused?

These are the basic questions you need to ask

Not sure 1 & 5 are really appropriate. Look them in the eye and be attentive, don’t wear a suit just smart jeans or work trousers and a smart polo shirt, and wash your car too.

Rephrase 1. What is you driver turnover rate like?

Agency near me prohibits jeans as workwear. :open_mouth:

Not wanting to spoil the tracky bottoms/reebok classics look?

bald bloke:
don’t wear a suit

Why not?

Conor:
At Driver Hire in Hull several years go if you turned up for a sign up interview in jeans, even if they were smart as suggested here, you didn’t get to have the interview. The guy running the branch was of the opinion that if you couldn’t even make an effort to turn up to a job interview as the modern world expects, you’re not going to be bothered to turn up to a client looking smart either.

Years ago I turned up to an agency in a suit. I may as well have been dressed like Edmund Blackadder compared to the bloke next to me, and it just didn’t look the part at all.
