ADR courses in the North West

Hello coddy, have you tried GATEWEN TRAINING in wrexham, our firm uses them for ADR refresher courses and any new starters.I have been to a couple of other firms, but found these the best. The tutor was an ex B.P.driver so he mixed the course up with some good tales of doing the job to keep it informative without all the scripted bull Ive had on other courses.

Hi mx51uzs, I know Eddy at Gatewen quite well and I’ve taught for them occasionally, plus many other providers, when needed.

I understand what you mean by “scripted bull,” but please realise that, in the case of an ADR course, there is a syllabus from the DfT that must be followed.

Every provider MUST use an approved course, so courses must be submitted to SQA before they get approved. The most important check that SQA makes is to make sure that the course follows the syllabus set by the DfT.

All ADR providers and instructors are subject to verification ‘spot-check’ visits by external verifiers appointed by SQA. A verification visit always usually lasts for one whole day and generates a (four-page :open_mouth: ) written report from the verifier. Although what SQA calls ‘war stories’ are acceptable for realism, the external verifiers nail us quite quickly if we deviate too far from what’s required. One of the specific questions that a verifier’s written report must contain is whether the instructor was reading from a pre-prepared script, as this is a big no-no.

Please give Eddy my regards when you see him next.

I,ve e,mailed Enterprise for a cost breakdown of Hiab as I,m after getting mine.I,ve got a pack from Red Rose Training .Which says 1 to 1 training at their base £150 plus VAT for a days training.I,m going to look at ADR when I get on my feet again.

I’d check the red rose quote as i did mine there a year ago (never used it since)
price was about the same but there were about 6 on the course definitely not 1-1

did my lgv training with entreprise and would def recommend them absolutely spot on in everything

I’ll see you in the morning Dave…

Dont be late
