ADR class 5.1 / 5.2

I would be a bit worried about your agency, a mistake that big could be fatal.

The Agency is DriverHire, and the company is Medical Waste Solutions in Nottingham, I have a day out tomorrow in a class2, and maybe class1 on saturday, we’ll see how things go, maybe a job in it somewhere

Thanks for the reply, Dave…i wasn’t aware of the temperatures that were applicable in that instance. I haven’t been asked to carry 5.2 yet.

As per, it would be the consignor’s duty to make the carrier aware of such information i presume?

Hi GlesgaBill. :grimacing:

5.2s all have an SADT, it’s just that the ones with a relatively low SADT that need to be carried / stored in a fridge.

Just to get this in perspective and develop the idea a little, most other materials (and even people :open_mouth: ) have a temperature (SADT) at which they will spontaneously combust.
The self-combustion temperatures are very different when we compare one kind of material with another. ( = some things burn more easily than others.)
For instance, it’s quite easy to get enough heat into a piece of paper by using a magnifying glass to focus the sun’s rays.
The paper will then ignite, but if we were to try the same method with a lump of coal, it would take significantly longer, or a higher temperature would be needed, to achieve combustion.

It’s a low SADT (when compared to other flammable materials) and the spectacular result that dictates that refridgeration is necessary for some 5.2s.

Absolutely spot-on mate.

Then the carrier must supply a suitable vehicle, the right PPE and equipment and a trained driver.

Dave, i should probably add at this point that “Hazchem Bill” is my given nickname at work since passing my ADR etc :D:D

I probably won’t get a big enough plate for the windscreen with all that on it
