Adaptive Cruise Control, My First Experience

actros ed:
Hello weeto to adjust the distance on your acc, first press the button on the right hand side of the wheel that looks like a cog. On the dashboard it will come up distance/lane control, then use the scroll in the centre of the buttons to close the gap which will be very close, or scroll back to open the gap. On my merc the start position means at 56 its about 200 feet from the truck in front. I hope this helps you post back if you need further help. I did video all this but can’t work out how to upload it.

Thanks actros ed, I did manage to sus out how to change the distance, just annoying that you have to set it up every time you start it, and seems to work ok, no drama with it even if another vehicle come in between you, quite impressed how good the tech is in vehicles now to make the job easier and stress free.

What? It neutralizes bosses and customers?

I’ve stayed out of this so far, and buggered if i’m going to join the ■■■■■■■ contest about what i haven’t or have done.

My philosophy is, by all means use the tech installed if its to your advantage, but don’t ever play follow the leader because the bod you are following might just be a plank stiched into a perma hi vis (lately seen sporting clashing accessory blue rubber gloves, phwoar :unamused: ), buggered if i’m ever going to be one of those lemmings who allows some half baked computer to decide at what speed and and what distance i will keep from the vehicle in front, just as i’ll decide which way i’m going and not some bloody toy map’s idea of route.

The other thing is, some of us still enjoy actually being in sole control of our own vehicles, now this may be an old fashioned view looked upon with derision from those who drive a vehicle on the buttons, well i too can drive the thing on the buttons but i can also make better smoother progress coupled with better fuel figures by me alone using the mk1 eyeball the good Lord graced me with helped by making use of terrain and timing various junctions and other traffic to allow me as much uninterrupted progress as possible, and travel sometimes hundreds of miles without actually touching the brake pedal, it’s also a hell of lot more interesting than pressing some mode button and vegetating behind the wheel.

Each to their own eh?

Ya don’t need technology to neutralise those idiots.

Wouldn’t disagree with anything you’ve said, I started my career in 1988 with a DAF 2500 running at 38 tonnes with a bulker, and was an experience over windy hill, so been there and done all that my self over the years, only some technology you have to embrace, like ABS, everything else just helps to make the job easier, and also safer. I certainly wouldn’t rely on it to save my life unless I’ve actually tested it for real to make sure it does was it is supposed to do, as far as I’m concerned, i see acc as a fancy cruise control which just about every driver uses that is it.

Getting the hang of mine now.
Set it up to follow the vehicle in front,as close as possible.
Then you’ll already have moved into lane 3 before it kicks in.
