Acknowledgements from being flashed in

Don’t lose too much sleep over it mate.

Thanks for your concern..mate.

But I don’t lose any….what makes ya think I do, I’m only contributing to the thread.

It’s a tradition passed down from generation to generation. The continentals seem to have picked it up from us Brits and seems to be an Anglo thing also used in the US.Not sure about NZ or Oz never been there.

Acknowledged with tail lights in daytime.Nearside-offside-nearside indicators at night for obvious reasons.

@ carryfast so flashing-in today is merely a nostalgic breaking of wind after a dinner of sentimentality! Straight from the 1950s when mirrors were credit card sized and misted over. I guess a few headlight blinks from an old AEC would say “you’re clear mate”, but now mirrors are the size of small tvs and heated, the last thing anybody needs is some tang blinding them with 3 seconds of divine white light from his blinged-up V8’s spotlamps at the moment they check their mirrors.

Some of us move with the times, and some of us are like old sentimental dinosaurs that can’t let go of all the old traditions and gestures.

I say craic on drive.

Some might say just a very useful bit of extra security.Like when even the 1980’s/90’s type TV sized mirrors are soaked in road spray especially lots of salt which dries to a white coating if dare to use the mirror heaters.

The idea was invented for a reason and can only help and does no harm.

That’s the sort of argument put when somebody puts forward a positive one, and the other guy cops out with that cos he can’t apply any positivity to his own argument……..a bit like the mirrorless trucks debate against proper mirrors.

It’s like this mate, I ‘‘lose no sleep’’ over this as you put it, I only participated because my name specifically cropped up, otherwise I probably wouldnt be arsed as this has been done to death on here already.

Seriously mate……I don’t give a rat’s ass whether or not you (or anybody) flashes me in or not, ….but if you have the good manners to do so, I’ll reciprocate with my similar good manners by acknowledgement.

I’ve done this sh. job a long time, and you can believe me or not I don’t care, but I can honestly say when people automatically used the flash system as a matter of routine, I can not remember being cut in on by another truck….ever.

It all started when one or two couldn’t be arsed, proving that a system that was prevalent for generations worked, and avoided f.ups, irrespective of mirror size, AECs ,.Scanias with bling, or anymore of that dog sh.

If summet ain’t broken and it works…..why fix/change it,.that’s all I’m saying.

Exactly that simple.

Head on nail I would say!

Take the A15 for example, lots of “box jockeys” on there going to- or from Rotterdam, 9 out of 10 times they completely ignore you and just cut in. Being the “cream of the crop” with their bling bling, they don’t need help obviously.

Ironically I still find situations where just driving cars for a living it can be helpful like around a week ago joining A14 eastbound from A1 to get to Royston to miss the black cat zb up.

The layout of that junction is a nightmare for trucks on the A14 being hung out by the new lane 1 joining from the M1.The acknowledgment I got made me know that he knew that he was dealing with an an old school truck driver not the typical muppet he was onviously expecting.

Sounds like you give a rat’s arse to me mate.

Yeah?

Well that’s up to you….mate.

Aah, sorry to involve you Robroy. I didn’t realise this subject had been covered already.

Anyway, interesting to see the responses. I was in Belgium last night, sitting at 80kph most of the time and I didn’t bother flashing anybody in, but then I was getting flashed in myself when I crossed back across the Dutch border and increased to 90 towards the end of the shift with my bed beckoning, so there’s still some drivers out there doing the old school thing.

Not at all mate, I enjoy a good ruck.:joy:

You didn’t flash anybody in??:scream:

Looks like I’ll be losing more sleep tonight if my mate on here is right .:joy::joy:

My fingers were moving towards the stalk a couple of times, but then I thought ‘we’re all professional’ drivers here, they don’t need me.

Always flash just the propa thing to do

I had a lorry the other day almost take out my front end with his judgement. He was going much faster than me about another 15mph but not as fast as he thought he was.

I do the hazards rather than the dance as I have paranoid vision of a stalk coming off in my hand.

Have you always had trouble with spelling?
