Diddy compaines use this practice you know the likes of Pollocks…
Are you sure it’s spelt with a p & not a b…?
I had one of those muppets smack me up the rear on the M1 outside luton in 1999, hit so hard he lifted my trailers three axels off the road, wrote my lorry off and his,he then walks up casually smoking a ■■■ and says,OH WELL THATS ME OUT OF A JOB,blood pxxxxxg out of my nose after smacking it on something in the cab as I was thrown on the floor, felt like smacking the knob
So do the traffic planners have their wages docked when they send you to the wrong address, to the right address but four days too early, give you a trailer which refuses to pull away (“Oh yeah, sorry, I didn’t notice that that one is VOR”) etc etc etc?
They might give one an option of “huge wages deduction or the sack”.
Start walking to the jobcentre, and don’t look back then. You can’t be robbed here if you don’t agree to have it nicked. Let “losing the job” be the standard and ultimate punishment for extreme tucktittery or whatever you other posters are currently calling it… Take it on the chin, and keep your stash to date.
Getting charged for damage isn’t something new, iv’e heard of this as early as the mid 90s, what you don’t hear is many drivers admitting they actually work for companies that charge for damage, just like a lot of drivers won’t admit to driving a class1 truck for minimum wage.
The company that I “work” for charge for damage, but I haven’t read that they do officially, as I don’t have one of there employment contracts, but I have heard one of the new employees was charged for damage a couple of weeks ago which was around £200.
According to the source this driver had this money deducted in one one lump sum, can they do this or should they only take a certain percentage per week?
Only thing I can find on lawful deductions from wages that limit the amount taken per week is in retail for missing stock or till shortages, and they can only deduct 10% per week to recover losses, should it be the same for truck damage?
And Yes I agree it is wrong to be charged for vehicle damage, and like most i won’t work for companies who have this policy, this is when drivers need to stick together to get this sort of thing stopped, but as ever it won’t happen.

its to make people give a sht about the trucks there driving, and not the "fck it attitude its not mine"
i have it on mine take it or leave it, no sign no job simple, and its only for the excess “NOT” the full amount for the repair, not the full amount. if its just a little ding then they lose some bonus
terrible approach. i’ve never, or ever will work for some who operates like that. if you need to do this so that people give a [zb], then you need to improve your interviewing technique.
if i had to pay for damage, it wouldn’t make me give anymore of a [zb], i give a [zb].
and this isn’t a lack of confidence in my own abilities, everybody makes mistakes at some point, if you don’t appreciate that and factor it into your business plan, then that’s your mistake!
Completely agree with Stevie. I have a near clean record for nearly 15 years as I’m careful and take pride in my driving. Managed to get my n/s mirror stuck on the top of a gate post which ended up ripping it off at the mountings and snapped a yellow line that got caught round the curtain ratchet handle, both events I offered to pay for myself as they were my mistakes. Even with that good record I still wouldn’t work for any outfit that wanted me to agree to automatic deductions for any damage. It’s an insult to the driver imho. If you don’t trust the driver’s abilities then why the ■■■■ are you offering him a job? As you say, it mostly comes down to bad interview technique and also lack of comprehensive driving assessments which every company should be doing no matter how big or small they are before handing over the keys for £100k+ of kit to some random who you don’t know from Adam.
