SHYTOT:
The police would not attend they contacted the Highways Agancy and they turned up about 1 hour after the incident helped get the car into the layby area on the slip road then left em to wait for the AA
Typical response from the old bill. So a crime has been commited i.e failing to stop at an accident but they don’t want to come out
Imagine if it was one of theirs it happend to, there’d be about 10 high speed pursuit cars, the force helicopter, cars with stingers and Algiers involved!

Bit worried about the stingers and Algerians, must be a new recruitment drive
One thing you need to know is that the Police only get contacted with the Highways Agency if there is an Injury, when you ring in your call goes through to HA they assess it and if it needs police then they inform them all other jobs get passed to their patrols, only after a certain time if they can’t resource it then they ask for the assistance of the Police.
The person in question needs to call at their local Police station and report it as a fail to stop RTC and it will get investigated the longer its left the less chance their is of any CCTV etc being available, this is the way forward HA dont want the Police on the Motorways unless injury or allegation of another nature.
All I am going to say is that the Police want the Motorway back in their control and they will decide what to deal with and what to pass to the HA.
Wait until the hard shoulders go for good and we have multi lane running that will be good fun to see who gets the blame when a 2nd or 3rd lane breakdown occurrs and end in a fatality, watch this space.
Just glad you survived, and a terrible experience, that driver did know he hit you, but he must have had reasons not to stop, but i hope he gets caught, and punished.

I assume you mean calling from a roadside telephone, the old sos phone ?
Further to Stefluc post, which is correct about HA . They also keep the cameras zoomed out to have an overview of a carriage way. They only get zoomed in after the fact 99% of the time, so forget trying to get a registration from them, plus they are, unless on a managed section, can be a couple of miles apart
im confused now so … whos car broke down . and what cars were at the scene
I was north bound near Darrington last night at around 9pm broke down helping my son hazard lights flashing
who was in what ?
The only thing she can tell us is that it was big yellow and red artic
so what did you see ■■

so where were you as it appears you’ve now left …■■?
Here’s what really happened; OP had some beers, decided to drive home, crashed his Mazda, wrote it off, got his sober missus and son to come out and wait with the wreck while he scarpered across some fields, comes on TruckNet to try and add some credibility to his story but forgets his story inbetween posts, probably because he’s still on the beers.

Case closed.
Yep, sounds like a load of bull to me too. The story has got more holes in it than a colander.
Actually no drinking 19 year old son in his van something dropped of back of lorry hit his van rear tyre had blow out rang mum because could not get of A1. Mum in Mazda drives down to him get too him whilst contacting police to let them know about the blow out and where the son is. Parks up behind sons vehicle to try to help him off the A1 full hazards on still trying to ring police to advice how bad this situation is and then prat in artic drives over my vehicle and then drives off. I understand accidents happen and I am one person who is on the hauliers side I Insure them so stand your corners but I don’t agree with driving of and not knowing weather you have left someone for dead. believe me I wish it was a tale would not put the blame onto an artic but the police are now checking the camera because he did indicate to pull in and they do have a camera in that area.
Oh dear, now I’m as dubious as CF & LHD.
So a bit fell off a truck to cause the breakdown then another truck appeared and drove over your vehicle but could be the Mazda or your van I’m still not sure but if it was the Mazda its probably a bonus.
Having re-read the thread we have gone from your where there to not being there to crucial facts appearing at the last minute. Sorry i will have to chalk this one down to BS- glad everyones OK, whether they excist or not.
So now the Police are involved because he indicated to pull in & they have a camera in the ‘area’ (WTF).
Apologies if English isn’t your first or probably second language but I’m now convinced this incident never happened.
If it did (although your doing your best to convince us it didn’t) I hope the dangerous driver is bought to justice.
Sounds to me like you were the victim of that notorious trucker who prowls around Darlington looking for victims! He usually comes on the CB radio saying “Candy Cane c’mon back, caaaannnddyy caaaannneee”
shytot: I was north bound near Darrington last night at around 9pm broke down helping my son hazard lights flashing. When an artic hit my mazda car the driver just drove off. Can anyone help on this. my car is a total loss

So, you were there helping your son, correct? And his mum/your OH was there too, correct? So where was your Mazda in all this? There is your son’s van, his mum’s Mazda and your Mazda that has been “driven over”? As a trucker yourself, surely you saw the artic that did it and noted the company name or livery, as you were there, indicated by your first line above stating you were at Darrington helping your son in your Mazda car? So there’s 2 Mazda’s and a van all parked up on the A1, then HA comes along an hour later and gets the van in the layby but as you and his mum were there, who is the “them” you state that the HA left to wait for the AA? Where were you in all this? Had you driven off and left them to it? Who was the “distressed young lady”? You said it was your son and his mum. His mum is unlikely to be a “young lady” if he is 19 years old.
The story makes absolutely no sense at all and I think you’re making it up as you’re going along here.
The ops son was driving a van, which run over something that was dropped off a lorry, his son rang his mammy, (presumably couldn’t get hold of daddy) who came to help (god knows why, as my wife can’t change a car tyre, never mind a van tyre).
Another lorry ran in to the back of the ops wife’s car, and then drive off!!!

Or is shytot a woman?
out of all of this the driver of the mazda has committed the offence of stopping on a motorway / clearway for no reason… ( the answer to assist don’t wash with them ) as that’s what the HA police and Recovery services are for, the HA and police condone any road side repairs as per your explanation could have resulted in a fatality … the advice given is … Get out stay to the rear of the vehicle and as far as safely practical.
if in fact the tale is true I’m glad everyone survived and will learn a valuable lesson…
