All DVSA are interested in, is that you have not exceeded your driving hours and have breaks showing for when the vehicle is not in motion. The tacho has no capability to show what you were doing when outside of the vehicle.
Never having used a digi tacho so have zilch idea just what the point of ‘POA’ is, but if you aint driving or doing physical work, then you on a break surely?.
The point of POA has nothing whatsoever to do with digi or analogue tachos - it is simply a fudge to allow drivers to be “not working” while “at work” and thus circumvent the WTD restrictions on working time.

I’ve been led to belive that if you are backed on to a bay, that this cannot be counted as daily rest as you may be required to move your vehicle (don’t get me wrong I have put it on break before, and will possibly do so in the future)
I normally put it on POA . This was also brought up at my last CPC course, they said that most tacho’s built after 2010 are Bluetooth, which means VOSA can just drive by You vehicle and down load your card.
I’ve heard of drivers being pulled leaving Lidl’s and Aldi’s that self tip.
Can anyone confirm these!
More DCPC rubbish … name and shame the trainer/training provider. Bluetooth my arse !

As an hourly paid drone I never, ever put it on break when tipping regardless of where I go or what I am allowed to do. Can’t understand why anyone would.
Even for an hourly paid driver, it could still make the difference between getting back to base/your own (or someone else’s) bed within your 13/15 hours and having to kip in a layby.
This is why I always put it on break while tipping, cannot see the point of pulling up outside the gate to put a break in, then have to night out cause your 13/15 is up half an hour from home. Stick it on break, then if needs be have a kip for half an hour while showing other work on the tacho.
I never put it on break whilst tipping at tosco’s/sainsburys or the like…
Why Not I hear you say?
Well…
I get paid by the hour
I am typically on 1 drop a day, so having my break at tosco would result in me being questioned about a second break
I get my break deducted… why the ■■■■ would I give up £8.25 of my pay to sit in next to a load of whining arse holes. (every other visit, you end up with the drivers that want to tell you their life stories… including the chalky tyres story)
You can not get decent food while tipping at most RDC’s, most ban drivers access to canteens and vending machines have nothing in them of any interest.
You can’t get comfortable in a RDC room, and I end up leaving tireder than I was when I got there
Likes of where you can’t stay in the cab I don’t put it on break personally. Not bothered who else does what, but I don’t want to deprive myself of a proper break I’m due and will be deducted pay for if I have a choice. I don’t have access to food/rest (I like a cheeky nap on break) and I can’t freely dispose of my time. I’d choose to disappear off site but at some of these places it takes 15 mins to walk out and clear the security barbed wire and gun nests, you’re then in the middle of nowhere and they go mental if you’re not about to drive off the bay so I’m not really free, still working and being forced to listen to loud football on the radio and sharon in goods-in talk about overtime or nail polish. Each to their own. If tight on hours I’ll pop it on break. I’m no high brow merchant about the rules, just like my break
The simplest solution would be to put a 2 ton concrete block, or other large thing in front of the vehicle. Nice big physical barrier that will aid against pulling off. And as most bays drop towards the building, a hand brake releasing wont do much.

Hear hear why would you want to take break at a crappy RDC with lack of decent facilities. One thing I do sometimes though is put it on break at RDC, then have more driving hours to get to where I want to have a proper break, then just leave it on other work.
