Abuse off the public

I didn’t say they were from Lincoln, I have been known to travel once in a while. Truth be told, I went back home, down south for it.

Ah, the use of offensive beat combos logos to scare the public…

I find that winding down the window is quite effective. …

In U.K. everyone thinks they can freely abuse drivers and treat them like dogs with impunity.

Forkies, transport managers, cyclists, councils and even bored OAP’s who live in a village and the list goes on.

I have no idea how we got to this or how to fix such a lack of respect for the frontline of an industry that is vital to the economy and the country’s wellbeing.

Sad reality Robroy, very sad indeed.

I get it a fair bit unfortunately. We deliver to building sites, everything from single house projects to all the major house builders. I had a tricky reverse into a single house job the other day in one of the posh parts of London so I pulled up on the road and quickly went to get the lads to help stop the traffic. As I got out the truck all the cars behind me that had to wait a lifetime (20 seconds or so) started blasting their horns in that really annoying way, BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP continuously as they drove up the road!

The public seem to have been brainwashed into thinking trucks are noisy, smelly, polluting killing machines that shouldn’t be allowed on the road and their drivers lower than pond life. I used to go away with my dad tramping in the early to mid 90s and don’t remember the truck and it’s driver being despised so much back then. People didn’t seem to mind trucks being on the road back then. Where did it all go wrong? What’s caused all the hatred towards us?

Nothing is angrier than a town person that has bought a house in the country next to a large forest. They never seen to grasp that one day those trees will all come down and get hauled past their door step.

A lot of our work takes us onto small country roads, and tight village/town centres in France. Mostly were accepted as being there for a reason, the locals all know were there as a service to their agricultural producers etc. They know were helping keep their businesses working and keeping them in work. Much nicer attitude. A couple of exceptions: in a town centre I had to stop by parked cars and block the road to load a couple of pallets, the locals saw what was happening, reversed a few metres and went another route, no drama. Then a car pulled up and blew its horn, the fork lift driver told the driver to “enculer” and commented to me that all Parisians are the same. Basically the locals are fine with it all but incomers and townies have no idea.
Another time going through a small village a pedestrian gave me “a look” and (dunno if he was a relative of RobRoys mate) said "Your SatNav bring you here?" in a very English voice. Gave a smile and replied "I always use this route to the beach". Seemed to confuse him. Anyway there seems to be a lack of understanding by "townies" and maybe more and more intolerance in the UK generally? Not just against we truck drivers tho, is it that were getting more bad tempered generally? Another question is is social media making incidents seem more common than they are?.

Two things mate; speed limiters combined with the dumbing down of the job.

Dumbing down allowing more pond life in yes.
Speed-limiters? Or those who indulge in elephant races and blame the speed limiter, or the driver of the other truck, or WTF?

I’ve started running a couple of clicks under the limiter speed, when on 2 lane stretches with busy traffic so if I still do catch other trucks I’ve got a bit of a boost. Try it, it really doesn’t get you there much later at the end of the day. I too am one of those submissive types that backs off a touch if somebody is struggling past me. To the truckers that just indicate and swerve out when there’s a car flying up to them…really■■? I am seeing more and more of these ‘bullys’ which isn’t helping our cause is it?

Page 1 is wide now due to the freakin massive Actros pic

I had a load of abuse of fellow lorrys drivers the other day in an industrial estate in Park royal had one case for a wholesalers so placed it at the back of the trailer ready at the last drop to make job easier as the only way to deliver it was park in the middle of the road and the amount of abuse I got off them was unreal I was less than 5 mins as I rang customer before arriving. I just smiled and said sorry mate got to have a 45 now should have seen there faces

You don’t like my actros pic? I was just trying to show where I had to reverse into whilst being abused by freakin London car drivers…very stressful! Soz [emoji853]

  naughty boy consider yourself yellow carded.

Auto boxes are THE biggest load of balderdash ever forced upon trucking. I’ve practically driven nothing else for about 8 years and I still hate them with a passion. I can’t wait until I get a manual again…

I don’t care anymore tbh, I have nothing to prove on crash, semi crash, synchro, splitters, two speed axles, overdrive and all the rest of it.
Anything for a quiet life now, stick it in drive, cruise control, up hill and down, so chill out, don’t get stressed and listen to the radio.
My point was not an auto v manual debate. I was pointing out that all the stuff I mentioned needed skill, ability, technique, practice and mastering, an auto box needs none of these, any dumb assed mutt can drive a truck because of them, and the dumb assed mutts are the ones who give the ‘drivers’ a bad name that is why we are all looked upon with contempt. :bulb:

Now it has only gone widescreen when posting.
