Abnormal load escort vehicles - power to direct traffic?

no1dieselman:
Returning to the original point before things degenerated, should not a wide load follow the highway code if it has to pull out for any obstacles, ie, mirror, signal manoeuvre if safe to do so and not expect just to pull out because it has an ■■■■■■?

Good point…on a motorway you aren’t allowed to ‘wait’, so it would be an offence (and dangerous) to stop and wait for a suitable gap. Equally the chances of being able to slot an abnormal load into a normal motorway ‘gap’ are slim.

So, isn’t that on of the reasons for having an ■■■■■■ vehicle: it pulls out into a normal gap, then slows to the speed of the abnormal vehicle to create a space for it?

It would also be interesting to know just what legal powers/rights are embodies in a Special Types movement order. Presumably it includes the right to remove street furniture, drive on the wrong side of the road with oncoming traffic stopped and all the other stuff that they have to do.

5 minutes after passing his test , wet behind ears, still asks inane questions with obvious answers yet he knows better ! And i bet he has bent a truck already.

FFS …Please can the hgv driving tests (and car for that matter) be made lots lots harder and anyone entering the country have to take a test end of to drive any sort of wagon if they are here more than 28 days in any rolling year or working for a uk company.
Perhaps then life on the road would improve…especially if there was a decent time limit for progressing through each category.

Back to the original question, they have the same “right” to block the road as the asehle lorry drivers(?) who think they have the right to block a clear empty lane when approaching road works a mile ahead! I.E.- none at all! :imp:
