Wow Frankie, I don’t know what your drinking, but it’s doing your memory good, I can recognize some of the names, but all my time in Bradford from 1960 was at JG Fielder /Chapman, right up until A1 took over, Dixie Dean lived in the same street as me in Shipley, but my brain can only recognize faces we were good mates, John Whatmuff Brian Whatmuff lenny Schofield,Tony Danes came to Chapmans, and his dad lived next door to my dad in Cottingley, but the rest I could only put them together if I could see there faces, Dont know about that “Stuart Broughton fella” never heard of him, “only joking Stuart”, don’t get your nickers in a twist, but it’s nice to know that some of us really do remember out old mates.
Kind Regards :-Jack

Les.
jesus les, you must be an early riser !!! would be nice to all get together before we start trucking in the clouds.
and jack, like me you remember a lot of faces but can`t put a name to them (my wife remembered most of the names)

Well, you’ve hit the nail on the head with that statement, “a joint re-union”, it’s exactly what I’ve been saying for a long time, and your right Bells and Fielders were close together, and so were A1 that’s why I wanted to have a re-union for all drivers in the area, including drivers from all firms not mentioned in this forum from the West Yorkshire area, especially those who were involved in the wool trade because it was a spesialised industry which involved special drivers who were not frightened of hard work, and we had them all in our close knit area, may of them are gone but there are still many of us left to tell a few tales and spill some diesel on the pub floor.
I’m sure if many of you put your ideas together, put them on this forum on this page we can get it together between us, I’m willing if you are, after all we all grafted our nuts off together, helped one-another when needed even if you worked for different firms at the time, also in those days we didn’t drive past one of our own if they were having problems on the side of the road, we stopped and helped, “unlike today” it’s dog eat dog game today, and we actually talked to one-another then, so come-on then I’m back from the US next Monday and hope to see some response when I get back. Best Regards :-Jack Graham

And another thing!, we had the Bradford hauliers federation, no-one took any-ones work, there was enough work to go around and they helped one another if they were stuck, most of them were mates, Jack Bell, James Ashworth, JG Fielder, Chapman, JM Robinson, etc etc etc, even after some of them retired they looked after one-another which showed what a close knit bunch they were.
And another thing!!,it’s time I signed off my sisters computer so she can have it back. Jack

Hi Frank, she sure is mate, tell me one who isn’t, staying in tonight will have to make do with a wee swally at home, hope the reunion comes off.
Les.
Well that’s a quick reply!, the best way to let as many know is to contact as many phone numbers with names, also email addresses, I have quite a few from A1 drivers, since myself and Stuart Sugden and Stuart Broughton organised the reunion for the A1 drivers, first year it was better than we expected, second year not so m any turned up and the third year there were less, so this year we gave it a miss because Stuart Broughton had arranged food and was out of pocket because the land-lady always put a good spread on an d there was too much, so if 2 or 3 of us get our heads together I know we can pull it off, and at least give it a try, so we need ideas of a venue, ideas of letting every-one know, also to try to organise it between holidays so that the guy’s can get there instead of sunning themselves on some foreign beach when they should be seeing there old mates and nattering over old times over a pint of the best, “only joking”, but it has to be done so ideas please and when and where, also if we can share contact numbers between 2 or 3 of us it will be easier, we also invited wives and girlfriends also office staff, it made numbers up and they could keep there eye’s on us and have a natter themselves. Best of luck to every-one and keep in contact, Regards "=Jack Graham

Yes October is the usual time, but there are still a few who go away, the last 3 have been in October and numbers have been getting less every year, that’s why I gave it a rest this time, but still it’s a start we just need more ideas and then start working on it. "-Jack

Hi Jack, October sounds good, it does get most holidays over and we can save our pension money up, If I can help in any way I am willing to, living in Glasgow doesn’t help, will send you a PM next week when you get back, I suppose we could put our thoughts on the other local threads, i.e. Ashworths, Wool Haulage etc. etc.
Regards Les.

Thanks Les, May-be we could use the old parking place off London Road, Glasgow, after all we spent a lot of time there, educating the local police on how we do it in Leeds, “only Joking”, but keep in contact and we’ll get things started next week. :-Jack.

I haven’t been to London Road for many years, but it sure as hell would bring a few memories back and put a smill on some of the old coppers faces, and more than likely cause a few “deevorces” if the wives came, but I guess it will have been built on by now, so to save any embarasing moments we’ll give it a miss, so keep it simple and senisible and have a geed old laugh, it’s one of the few things in life that keeps some of us going, remembering what “real” drivers did in the old days. :-Jack
