A weeks worth of snow, a diary

Eh. Real winter. That’s what I miss the most in Scotland.

BTW: Is that a diary of somebody who went to Finland to steal jobs from poor Finnish people?

The logtrucks interest me,any more?

Thanks for a great diary,Kyrbo.

I suppose driving a wag ‘n’ drag loaded with eggs on snow covered roads makes you a very careful driver

Terrific diary and pics, thank you. Always interesting to have an insight into the job in a different country.

There are many British LGV drivers who would have given up on that job on the first day! Whereas you Kyrbo, just take it all in your stride. Is the money good?

That is quite a lot of kms to drive considering all the time spent doing other work.

About reversing upto the trailer to transfer the cages with the tail lift. When you are alone, how do you know when you are the correct distance from the trailer to stop?

Hei Kyrbo, haluaisin työssa Suomessa!! Is my Finnish good enough? Thanks for a great read. Is the snowmobile towing a log sled? Moi

Shrek:
Bet it’s a bugger to reverse

Actually it isn’t (much) worse than artic  Practice does help and I can reverse artic almost as well as a-frame drawbar :stuck_out_tongue: :sunglasses:

I don’t suppose so. Actually, I think you are confusing me to a another user here at TNetUK.

I have posted some pictures in photos forum in past so you can always search. I’m also pretty sure I have some waiting somewhere in my hard disk to be posted…

Money is quite the same as normal hourly wage for driving a-frame drawbar type outfit here in Finland. I don’t get any extra for physical work if that’s what you are wondering

The mileage is bit much for a one man, and usually boss is (was) driving other end of the week. Route has now changed so that km’s might even be closer to 2000 than 2500.

Practice also helps to the reversing  I can’t do it by mirror, but opening the door it only takes some practice to reverse so that after you stop you can open tail lift with full operating range from up to down and there’s about 20 cm to the obstacle behind (trailer, building, door, whatever). After that, when reversing to the trailer, you just open back doors, drive tail lift to the up position with “board” extended horizontally. Then you carefully reverse rigid until you feel tail lift coming to a contact with the trailer and then let rigid come few cm’s forward before applying the brake, and voilà . When trying this I suggest you don’t perfectly align rigid to the trailer but leave them to “corner” a bit.

No, it isn’t a log sled the snowmobile is towing. It has something to do with sports. And about the language, I’d say it depends  You can always ask from Finnish companies, but I’d suggest you use wording like “haluaisin töitä Suomesta” meaning “I’d like to have work from Finland” or “haluaisin työskennellä Suomessa” meaning “I’d like to work in Finland”. Anyhow, olet tervetullut, and I suggest that you don’t listen orys’es words about stealing jobs

Kyrbo:
and I suggest that you don’t listen orys’es words about stealing jobs

Hehe, I am a job-stealer by myself

I just wandered if you are a Brit, becouse I already noticed this strange relativity:
Brits stealing jobs in other countries - good
Other people stealing jobs in UK - bad

But that’s for other topic

I am jelaus for all this snow :frowning:

Hei taas Kyrbo. Thanks for the tyóssa/ tyóskennella tip. To speak Finnish in England is like looking for a Sami speaker in Helsinki. All tips welcome! The sled question… is the sport sleddog racing? Valjakkourheilu?? Hyvää Joulua ja onnellista vuotta 2009 :sunglasses:

Good pictures, good information and a great diary!

Just spotted this:

No wonder my ears were burning!

Wow, how did I miss this in December? Great diary and photos, well done.
The word you were looking for to take the air from the engine is “bleed” as in bleeding the system.
Looking forward to your next diary,Kyrbo. Good Luck.
