A thank you to agency drivers

Stanley Mitchell:
95% of “drivers” looking for work ringing me are “agency bods” who fell for the “mega rates” scam, having ditched their full time jobs…and the agencies seem to have an abundance of drivers spare ATM from what I`m being offered, at rates that look like they did this time last year :open_mouth:

Very different around here - agencies track you down on indeed, phone you offering any money you want. Never seen pay rates remotely as high. Maybe find a better area?

Im an operator , so Im more than happy with sanity returning, but in the mean time we have cut agency use down to just ONE good lad who I would take on full time if he ever wanted it, his rate is fair and we work together to enable him to have a fair work/life balance just like the rest…We NEVER cancel a booking either, so he knows the score & returns the goodwill with a cracking service, unlike most of those that masquerade as professional drivers out there ATM :unamused:

Winseer:
because some EE working for a rival agency has got in there, and undercut the main agency supplier…

Bit of a racist bigot aren’t you? You seem to always have a bit of a chip on your shoulder about Eastern Europeans.

Arent EEs all white, just like 90ish% of Brits today? This aint racism at all. At a stretch, nothing more than nationalism. But you’ve got to be the wokiest of the woke to even think like that. Winseer just stated where they are from…

Xenophobic bigot then?

I dont see the relevance of the national origin of a driver in saying "agencies undercut each other".... you know, competition and the like. Do EE drivers queue up to get paid less more than others? The way the post insinuates that an "EE has got in there" rather than one agencys management has put in a lower bid.
.
“just stating where they are from”
Either has no relevance? Or is shorthand for “They are foreign” and “They are acting this way because they are foreign”.
.

The last person to boot me was an agency manager, who happened to be Romanian.

If you bothered to read back through my posts of the last few YEARS - you will see me uplifting EEs on numerous occasions, so I’ve hardly got a track record of “Bigot” (Not called anyone ‘queer’ here) or “Racist” (Never met any EEs that were Non-White yet…) - so all-in-all, I figured the remarks were just some banter and sarcasm, nothing more.

Meanwhile, the political left - wonder why they cannot get past people like yours truly… :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:
There’s no change at the top, alas - until they do.

I’ll be the first to admit I am sick to death of voting every time (like I always do) for the “Least Worst” because the party I want to vote for - isn’t ever on my ballot paper, except in 2015…

I never backed Cameron, nor Blair, nor Thatcher.

I thought the entire reason that agency rates have risen so sharply - is that very FEW full timers have ditched their regular job for the “Gamble” that is now double pay but zero hours contract…?

“Mega Rates” - are no good, unless enshrined into some kind of contract, even a temporary one…

“Mega Rates” for this shift only we are struggling to fill… But back to rock-bottom rates tomorrow, when the regular guy comes back…

Is that what is happening, or merely what is expected to happen, hence so few full timers are tempted yet…

If every full timer DID ditch their job to go agency, the market forces effect of that en-masse move would be that the new full timers rate would rise to about halfway towards where the agency rates went, whilst agency rates would then settle back down to the NEW full timer rate halfway in between - by early next year…

Factor in a crappy Christmas though?
If people think there is a recession coming - they’ll not want to gamble not getting any work at all in January, and are likely to stay put in their <£10ph stobart-style third-world jobs - aren’t they?

If there’s an economic “Level Up” BOOM coming though? Then surely all these new depots being built all over the place - will be heavily and aggressively recruiting actual full time highly paid jobs, not working via an intermediary like K&N, DHL, etc.

In a nutshell, - if you can manage your money, agency works better than full time. If you can’t manage, and you’re hand-to-mouth - you NEED that full time set of hours, even at half the going rate now…

Thus, the non-gambler - stays put.
Familiarity breeds contempt, with complacency giving it a boost along the way.

“Better the devil you know” - is like drawing a ‘3’ card, and then refusing to re-draw for a higher card, and the better deal that goes with it “Because I might end up with a ‘2’ end be even worse off!”

The mentality of the non-gambler - is therefore self-defeating, and soul crushing - rolled into one.

The only guarantees in life - are death and taxes.
It is about time people realized that the “Job for Life being worth half the pay” concept - died the death.

Conor…56,000 British lorry drivers quit in 2020 alone.Wrong 56,001. You forgot me
