A.S.Rawlings Transport Ltd

I can only reiterate what Charlie has just posted about Horace Ransome a good friend and at one time one of the front runners in transport out of Southampton.
rip Horace

Thanks should go to Ron Griffiths who phoned me this morning, I knew Horace well and had many a long chat with him, I had heard of his long sessions in the Windmill at Four Marks and also of even longer sessions in the Watercress Pub?? (on the way south out of Four Marks on the left on the dual carriageway) with another long departed good mate Ron Blackman R.I.P.

I shall be there on the 21st February, hopefully to give Horace a good send off!

Another pic of poor Horace R.I.P. he did not look that well at the reunion in August 2010!

It’s great to see the ā€œBossā€ washing off the Sons truck at the weekend so the Son can get a bit of time off!

Here’s one he washed earlier!

Just trying to save a dying thread. On the way to the Chunnel 3 weeks past we saw a Black Mercedes northbound on the M20 we think it was Mark venus on his way home.
On the way to Spain we took the N20 to Limoge and then the N21 to Periguex there were a lot of routiers along that road but as it was Sunday none were open has anybody ever used that road?

I am leaving next week to go back to the sun for a while.I have spoken to Andy Harris and have arranged to stay with him for a couple of days doen near Limoges.I expect Charlies comment would be something along the lines of both the short arms long pockets together but you all know that isnt true :unamused:
Who can remember him when he worked for STS via Horace?

Yes Ian,I can remember Andy Harris very well.We both worked for Horace on traction for STS.
I have several stories about Andy which I cannot repeat on here as its a family show. Please give him and his lovely
wife my best regards. What ever you do Ian,don,t mention the lodger.Safe trip mate.See you inAugust.Regards Charlie

It means he’s lost it Charlie…He cant do it in one hit anymore so he’s got to plague the ExPats of France with their hospitality, that includes decent red wine!

Say hello to Andy from me too Ian. Maybe we could use it as a stop off at a later date…keep him sweet!

Mr Burton sir its not that I have lost the will for travelling non stop its because I have the dog and the good lady with me and Janet Harris is an extremely good cook.Whats this about the lodger Charlie :unamused:

Thinking about August perhaps you should give it some thought Gazzer seeing as you are chairman of the commitee

As you know Ian and everyone who knows me are fully aware,I am not a gossip!
However there was a rumour put about bu Ginger Aynsley that there was a lodger
who Andy had to remonstrate with quite violently.Nuff said nudge nudge.Ask Andy if he remembers the night in Valencia
when we staggered into a a bar with a red light outside thinking that it was a Watneys pub.Regards Charlie

Eh? August? Committee? Are you saying I’ve got to get a wine list together for the consumption of? I’m now a redundant Camarero!

You moved in ok then Gaz ? I trust you will look after me girl as if she were your own ?

Hello to you all out there I have recently returned from Spain and am now here for a few months so as to partake in Harvest and the August get together.Im led to beleive that there will be more people this year than we have had in the past so it should be a really good craic.
On the way down to Spain and on the return we stayed for a few days with Andy Harris ex STS who lives not far from Limoge he made us very welcome and we relived a lot of old times with a significant amount of falling down water and some really excellent food.On the last day of our stay we visited John Ainsley (Ginger) who lives nearby.and a good time was had by all. Both Andy and Ginger send there very best to any one who knows them.

Hiall yes august is getting ever closer and if many more people say they are coming this year we might need a bigger venue or at least hope for good weather and go out in the back garden. ha ha see you all soon

Good evening all.Terry Sparrow called round this morning for coffee.(He is one of my few friends who
keep in touch) We are both coming to the thrash in August. As I am now pretty ancient, this could be your last chance to buy me a drink before I shuffle off to that big lorry park in the sky.No tears now.Just go to the bank and draw out a few bob.
Regards Charlie

Just had an email from Ginger.Nice to hear from him.How much did Andy charge you for b and b? Pity that you,ve got rid of your Shellbanc card.Would have saved you a fortune.I still have mine if you want to buy it.Best regards old friend Charlie

Charlie, an old Bank of Shell (UTA DKV or similar) card could come in handy for me, trolling back and forth. Have you got any VISA cards available? Handy for the Autoroute but I do tend to avoid the motorways, preferring the ā€œold roadā€. I never was one for ā€œbumpingā€ the peage but I could learn from an old hand like yourself.

Gary,I,m like you.Basically as straight as a dogs hind leg! However I learnt quite a lot fromTraniht who was and perhaps still is a master of jiggery pokery.I remember Bunter Rawlings telling me that he was the only man he knew who could get 450 litres in a 400 litre tank! I rest my case.Regards Charlie

Bit off topic Charlie, but any chance you might be at Gaydon next weekend
